I have a Blackhawk Serpa holster for my SA XD 9sc and when I push the button to release it, I do like Divegeek's second picture, with my finger straight. Releasing the button with the end of my finger just feels so unnatural to me. And since I have short fingers, the button is about in the middle of the last joint so I think it is just right.

The only problem I have had with said holster is that I haven't officially broken it in. :( It's never been out of the house. :( And the only time I have put it on is to test the fit. And that story is somewhere else on this board.

I have seen this holster advertized and was considering getting one....and you people (this thread) helped me make up my mind

I just purchased this holster for my SAXD 45 acp. It is the first holster other than the stock holster that came with the gun (so I'm no expert on holsters).
I really like this holster so far. I am using the paddle attachment. It rides close to my side not hanging out, like with the stock belt loop XD holster did. It is also nice and solid and you don't have your gun wobbling around like with a the standard belt loop XD holster. I also like the idea of not having to wear a belt with this holster.

An added bonus of this holster is, if I am using it to carrying concealed, the bottom of the holster is even with the barrel and people wont see the business end of the weapon if my shirt raises up a little. I have the 4" inch model XD.

I like this holster quite a bit too. I have 2 of them. I hope you continue to enjoy it. :D

I picked up a Serpa with my new G23. I have to say that I am loving this thing.

I found the Safariland 6004 Woodland holster release lock button pin often comes out of the plastic shell. The real ones are not that expensive.

Spend the $50 and get a real carbon fibre one so your gun can be secure.

The conversation on this topic is what led me to pick up a Serpa holster a few months ago.

I had a cheap nylon holster before, which had three big problems: 1) it didn't allow me to full grip the weapon when drawing, which required "adjusting" to achieve a safe grip, 2) the snap liked to fold back in, so if I didn't fold the snap back upon reholstering, it could have caught the trigger and cause a discharge, and 3) it liked to slid along my belt whenever I moved, from 3:15 to 5:45.

There's no worry about a snap with the Serpa, and like others have mentioned, you can draw the weapon with a natural grip and your trigger finger in a safe position. The weapon rides higher on my waist, and the paddle keeps it in the same position all day.

In short, the Serpa holster gave me everything I could want in a holster, save perhaps for a danger-close warning signal. ;-)

I have 5 different serpa holsters and have had no problems at all yet.

I have a question for you guys with the drop leg platform. Does the holster attach to it the same way it attaches to the belt and paddle and is it possible to get just the drop leg platform without the holster to save money. I really don't need another serpa holster just the drop leg platform. thanks

The drop leg holster has one extra attach point at the muzzle end and has extra protection that covers the slide all the way up. A regular Serpa will attach and i have done it. I have not been able to find the drop leg portion without the holster; I don't think they sell it that way.

Them have them at Barlow's Custom Guns. Around $60ish I believe and had a few.

I bought my thigh platform by itself, without a holster, and just took my regular SERPA off the paddle and bolted 'er up.

So many people raving about the SERPA. I must be the only person in the world to have had a 'small' problem. I have had my XD9sc fall out of my SERPA. I know most (all?) won't believe it. It happened in the bathroom (of course). I was not fondling it either. I had been walking around for hours before this happened. I stood up, pulled up my pants (being sure to keep the whole combination from sliding off), heard a loud clunk, and there was my XD on the floor. I don't know how it happened, but it did. Has anyone tried wearing a SERPA with a 5.11 nylon belt in their Teflon coated pants? Now that's slippery!

A couple more dislikes: the gun is very sloppy in the holster, my XD flops back and forth a lot and rattles; with the SC the holster is 'longer' than the barrel and makes the SC effectively almost as large as the full size. I'm going to try cutting the bottom 1" off mine as soon as I get my tools set back up. I've not seen a shorter SERPA for the SC.

Now all of you can tell my what I 'must of' done wrong.

Well I don't know about it falling out, but as for how long the holster is, you can get them made for the XDsc. They are hard to find, but I have seen them.

Just a heads up: when i pulled my Serpa (Paddle) holster off of my belt the other day, one of the small screws that holds the paddle to the actual holster had come loose and fell on the floor.
I also noticed the other two screws were loose also. I do not see this as any kind of a flaw. I have worn mine about 50% of the time over the past 9 months.
Just a reminder It might be a good Idea to check these screws on a periodic basis.
