Anyone want to let me try their SmartCarry?

Postby FlyfishermanMike on Mon 08 Feb 2010 9:54 pm

I'm a pretty skinny guy. I was already skinny but lost some weight after some medical junk. I'm 6'1" and about 155lbs but gaining, slowly. I just got my CWP and the only way I can really pull it off is appendix style carry. I really have little to no fat on my oval shaped waist and anything else I've tried just prints too much. I'm thinking a SmartCarry may be my best option until I can pack on some more pounds. I'd really like to try one before spending the money. I live in Bountiful so if anyone has one, medium sized, in the Davis/SL country areas that would let me test it out, let me know. I'd buy a used usable one too.

I'd be up to hear other options as well.

Thanks,

^^ike

You can try mine. I'm in Davis county, though at the very northern edge of it.

I'm the exact same height/weight as you and I use a MTAC holster with little printing even with my normal pants and shirts. I also use a Galco OWB hoster that is very comfortable and really doesn't print at all unless I am wearing a light t-shirt. Don't be to quick to stand in front of a mirror and examine yourself for the smallest sign of slight printing. People hardly notice my OWB with a t-shirt on and half the holster sticking out from underneath my shirt. A small amount of printing is noticed much less then you think.

However, let me know how the smart carry feels. I am thinking about getting one to wear under my scrubs.
Yes, my avatar is a picture of a stuffed sheep sitting next to a gun and some ammunition... Don't worry he's fully trained in firearm safety.

The SmartCarry is very comfortable. I am using one right now with a S&W Airlite .357. One of my friends wears scrubs and I bought him one for his birthday. They work really good, especially when you don't have a belt to hold your pants up. I have worn it with PJ's on and nobody knew that I had it on. My g/f knows that I carry and she didn't notice at all.

I also agree with Jon about printing. Nobody notices it. I carry in a Serpa holster most of the time, either a full sized 1911, or a SIG P250. The SIG sticks out ALOT and I haven't noticed anyone staring at all. The more you carry the less you will care.

This might just be me, but this is kinda creepy! ....and gross. It's like wearing someone else's jock strap to me. Ewww!

Yeah, I thought about that. As long as the person isn't going commando, I'm not too worried.

Thanks for all the great advice. Divegeek, If no one closer chimes in I'll pm you and we can work something out. The gun I'm trying to "hide" doesn't help my plight either, my G30. Until, if or when, I can get a smaller gun it's what I have. I just got my permit so I've only carried twice now so I'm going through the "everyone knows I have a gun!" thing. I've considered trying a Kholster as its more affordable/cheaper and I've heard good things and like how some have cut it down from that awful big circle. It's the same style, type as an MTAC. I know something with clips on each side will significantly help. Like mentioned, I've also considered a good OWB holster that holds it close and tight to the body. I have a Serpa and while I love it, even with a jacket it might be a stretch. I need a new/better belt too... man this stuff adds up quick. Thanks everyone!

I'm the friend of mqondo who wears the scrubs. I love the SmartCarry. For some instances it can be a little uncomfortable, but with shorts, scrubs, etc it works quite well. Driving in a car is a little difficult if you don't have loose clothing on. But overall I'm a fan. Because you have a taller build it should be easy for you to carry without printing. I'm smaller in stature and may at times print, but in the age of cell phones, PDAs, etc attached to the hip no one really notices or even has the idea of what to look for.

Thanks again for the present mqondo

I'm in Centerville. I have a small SmartCarry for my Kahr PM9 and a modified Kholster for my G23. You're welcome to try both. PM me if interested.

Thanks Scott, I'll send you a PM. Both the SmartCarry and Kholster have trial periods so I could always get a refund and try the other. Maybe I'll just get a SafePacker and carry around a man purse. My wife would love that!

I'll give another glowing review to the SmartCarry. Today I changed my clothes in front of coworkers WHILE CARRYING and was confidently able to remain concealed. These are coworkers I would NEVER want to know I carry. Just turned my back and changed my shirt first. Then, with the long shirt on, I dropped trou and changed out of my work pants. The tail of my shirt concealed the velcro back strap while I did this.
How many holsters allow you to change your clothes (down to underwear) and still remain completely concealed? I would rarely carry if it weren't for my smartcarry. There are occasions where deep concealment isn't necessary or I know I'll be wearing a loose shirt or jacket, then I have a nice, custom, more expensive IWB as another option. But it gets used maybe once to every ten times I wear my SmartCarry.
I've shared before that I've danced with, hugged, and even made out with girls while wearing it and was able to position my hips so that they didn't even notice my 3" J-Frame (no that is not a double entendre). This thing is awesome. Wearing it right now under jeans and it's completely comfortable.
