I've owned and carried several Glock, Kahr, Springfield, Smith & Wesson, and 1911's including a 5". I would much rather carry a 1911 than any other gun simply because of how easy it is to throw a shirt on over it and have it not print as much as most people do with a bulkier gun. The point of concealing is just that, to keep others from ever seeing or knowing it's there. All too often I see people try to conceal and fail simply because they can't hide that brick they've got shoved in their waistband, it defeats the purpose.
My favorite I've found so far is the Dan Wesson Vbob. It's a commander length 1911 with a full size bobtail grip which helps keep the sharp point at the bottom of the grip from cutting into you when you move about, it also prevents your shirt from snagging and riding up and lets you easily carry it concealed. (Both problems you will find with trying to IWB carry the full size 1911)
I prefer carry in two ways; one is a shoulder holster under a hooded sweatshirt or jacket and two spare mags (to even out the weight), the other is in a Cobra Gunleather IWB holster, no extra mag.The Vbob
