The single count of possessing a dangerous weapon in an airport secure area was filed last week in Salt Lake City Justice Court. The offense is punishable by a fine of up to $750.

In the end he was charged under Utah State Statute 76-10-529 (2)(a)(ii) *snip*
So, let me get this straight: The system actually worked in preventing a dangerous weapon from making it into a secured area and he's being charged with possessing a dangerous weapon in a secured area? Normally I'm one of the first to jump on such stupidity with outraged sarcasm but I've got nothin'. The level of stupidity this rises to is well past biting sarcasm and smack in the middle of dumbfounded silence.
What seems so stupid? To me it is simple. It is unlawful to take a firearm through an airport screening area. He did. They found it. He was charged with a infraction. Which is better then a class A. He will pay his fine and be more careful. The only thing stupid, and I'm sure Swapp will agree, is that he forgot he had a firearm.
