I see no logic in insisting that I be required to submit myself to unlawful violence without even a pretense of attempting to defend myself.
I will, of course, make a strenuous effort to avoid needing to move there. At this point, it looks like I won't need to move.
I love Australia, it is part of my identity and nationality. But they sure are insane illogical
stupid about self defense.
One thing to keep in mind about most of the countries we rag on about having stupid self defense laws, is that they have social medicine.
One of the driving factors in their defense laws is that tax payers are going to have to pick up the tab for any injuries. They use that idea to push gun control and self defense laws (prohibitions).
During my time in the military, I spent a few months with a British unit in Afghanistan. When the subject of self defense came up, the Brits that were present all made statements to the same effect:
"It's cheaper for them to let you die, and not have to pay for the medical care; or let you get embarrassed about being beaten up, so you don't go to the doctor; than it is for you to beat up the robber, trying to defend yourself." (Then you have more
We covered the same thing last year, when the "No bars, wire, or booby traps on windows" story was going around. The British government was tired of paying for medical care of the [Edited by mod. -Don] that got injured while breaking into people's sheds and houses; so they banned bars, wire, and booby traps on, in, or around windows and doors.
It's all about the money. (With emotionally-driven politics thrown in.)
I need a new signature. This one sucks.
