I recently purchased a pair of these babies from Amazon. When I am teaching people how to shoot I get tired of having to yell, or have to take my muffs off to hear someone. The second instance really sucks when someone else shoots right when you take your muffs off. Also would be nice just to chat now and then when at the range and still have protection just in case someone starts shooting next to you.
So I bought these and recently went to the range to test them out. They have volume control so you can turn them up pretty loud, or turn them down if you don't want to hear everybody's conversations. Even with wearing ear plugs underneath them (for added protection) I can still hear people talk very easily. Ambient sound is easy to hear as well. Doors shutting, a/c units, and even dog claws scrambling on the hardwood floor.
But once the sound reaches above 82dB, the microphone shuts off and doesn't let any of it in. So our yellow lab barking gets tuned out, and also gun shots are blocked. Awesome.
I could hear people talking at the gun range and whenever a shot rang out, the sound was dampened.
I'm quite impressed with these little muffs, and may buy another pair soon for those that go with me, so that we both can hear each other talk.
It says the batteries last for 350 hours. I'm guessing that will vary depending on how loud they are set for. They run on 2 AAA batteries that are included with the muffs.
