The new 30 yard range has four positions.

The key deposit has been increased to $250.00 (and the locks changed) due to several people deciding that for $50.00 they would just keep the key so they could use the range whenever they desired.
A key may be checked out at the Provo Parks and Recreation Office for a $10 daily user fee in addition to a $250 refundable deposit (cash or credit card). Patrons using the rifle and pistol ranges need to bring their own targets and target holders. Can someone help me with the Hill Rod range? I believe it is the one on base. Are there special requirements to go there?

I don't think the info for the Centerville Small Arms range is valid. I tried to go to their web site from the Utah Shooting Sports web page, and was sent to a page for ordering diet pills. When I tried the phone number, I got an answering machine for what sounded like a little old grandma. :shock:

Yes it is on base. I have never been there, but would call the club and maybe base security for usage requirements etc.. I'll update the address and hours for that one too. :D

Can someone help me with the Hill Rod range? I believe it is the one on base. Are there special requirements to go there?

Yes it is on base. I have never been there, but would call the club and maybe base security for usage requirements etc.. I'll update the address and hours for that one too.

I will call them tomorrow and get some information and post it. Thanks.

The Liberty Range

Postby MarshallDodge on Tue 17 Mar 2009 8:39 am

I had posted this a while back when the subject came up:

There is a place near Liberty, UT called the Weber Wildlife Federation. The cost is $10 per year which I find very reasonable. You can get memberships at Sportsmans Warehouse and Kents in Ogden. If you buy your ticket at the range it is $15.

It is setup for long range shooting out to 300 meters but you can setup targets as close as you want for pistol shooting. No shotguns are allowed. Be sure to bring your own target stands, cardboard box, or something sturdy to place your target on. There used to be a metal gong at 300 meters but some ignorant person shot the chains off. :bang:

GPS coordinates: +41° 22' 15.60", -111° 52' 11.20" (you can copy and paste into google maps)

If you follow the road that the range is on and go past the range, it turns into what I assume is BLM. I have seen people shooting up there and that area is free.

Here are some pictures:

Two comments to this incredible useful list: :thumbsup: Keep the good work up.

I could not find the below range:
:!: Bountiful Lions Range, 1350 Skyline Dr, Bountiful, UT 84010
Phone number is same as the listed one: 801 298 0301 (??), however address is very different and above address is real, I shot there.
The facilities at the Bountiful Lions Range include:

* 25 Yard Outdoor Pistol Range
* 100 Yard Outdoor Rifle Range with 11 benches
* 200 Yard Outdoor Rifle Range with 3 benches
* Five Trap Houses

Fees: $4.00 per shooter. There are no membership fees and everyone is welcome.
Hours: 10:00a.m. To sundown, Monday through Saturday and
10:00a.m. To 5:00p.m. on Sunday

I believe the listed Bountiful range is the "Centerville" range, that is in the list, too.

:!: As for the SLC - Utah Precision Marksmanship Range at the Naval ROTC, this range is only for .22 and air-pistol, air-rifle. One should make a comment/note next to this.

for those in Vernal UT.

located on 500 N west of Vernal Ave by about 5 miles
the Buckskin outdoor range is open 24hours a day and is free. there are several 25m pistol ranges, a 50m range and 100m range. For long distance there is 600m and 1000m ranges as well as a SASS range(you have to be a member for the SASS range) the 600m and 1000m ranges have metal prairie dogs, coyote, elk, deer and bear at varous unknown distances. for the pistol ranges and 50m, and 100m ranges bring your own target. the 50m, 100m, and long distance ranges have covered shooting benches.

very impressive facility for a free city/county range.

Is after dark shooting permitted there? The Delta City free range is also always open, but the last time I checked with the Millard County Sheriff after dark shooting in that County is verboten...

I never checked the actual laws, but no signs restricting times. I ( as well as many others) have done this with no issues. Not even a officer driving buy to check on what is going on. not far away (about a half mile) is an rv park. No one complained that i know of.

i just checked the county code,..no firearms mentioned in the entire code.

i thought only the state could regulate the use and sale of firearms. this would mean that county sheriff could not restrict shooting unless the facility has open and closed hours.

If the local LEO allow shooting there after dark, their county will get plenty of my business!!!

The lack of a county ordinance means spotlighting is NOT allowed pursuant to 23-13-17, this is where counties get this authority to regulate this specific activity. Counties vary, I would recommend contacting the sheriff's office and maybe a local attorney.. Tooele for example is very strict against this, any shooting activity is considered hunting by the sheriff's office, even if you have targets set up, and they have not allowed for any lawful spotlighting per county ordinance.

23-13-17. Spotlighting of coyote, red fox, striped skunk, and raccoon -- County ordinances -- Permits.
(1) Spotlighting may be used to hunt coyote, red fox, striped skunk, or raccoon where allowed by a county ordinance enacted pursuant to this section.
(2) The ordinance shall provide that:
(a) any artificial light used to spotlight coyote, red fox, striped skunk, or raccoon must be carried by the hunter;
(b) a motor vehicle headlight or light attached to or powered by a motor vehicle may not be used to spotlight the animal; and
(c) while hunting with the use of an artificial light, the hunter may not occupy or operate any motor vehicle.
(3) For purposes of the county ordinance, "motor vehicle" shall have the meaning as defined in Section 41-6a-102.
(4) The ordinance may specify:
(a) the time of day and seasons when spotlighting is permitted;
(b) areas closed or open to spotlighting within the unincorporated area of the county;
(c) safety zones within which spotlighting is prohibited;
(d) the weapons permitted; and
(e) penalties for violation of the ordinance.
(5) (a) A county may restrict the number of hunters engaging in spotlighting by requiring a permit to spotlight and issuing a limited number of permits.
(b) (i) A fee may be charged for a spotlighting permit.
(ii) Any permit fee shall be established by the county ordinance.
(iii) Revenues generated by the permit fee shall be remitted to the Division of Wildlife Resources for deposit into the Wildlife Resources Account, except the Wildlife Board may allow any county that enacts an ordinance pursuant to this section to retain a reasonable amount to pay for the costs of administering and enforcing the ordinance, provided this use of the permit revenues does not affect federal funds received by the state under 16 U.S.C. Sec. 669 et seq., Wildlife Restoration Act and 16 U.S.C. Sec. 777 et seq., Sport Fish Restoration Act.
(6) A county may require hunters to notify the county sheriff of the time and place they will be engaged in spotlighting.
(7) The requirement that a county ordinance must be enacted before a person may use spotlighting to hunt coyote, red fox, striped skunk, or raccoon does not apply to:
(a) a person or his agent who is lawfully acting to protect his crops or domestic animals from predation by those animals; or
(b) an animal damage control agent acting in his official capacity under a memorandum of agreement with the division.

Also, in the hunter safety classes I've sat in on, they always instructed students to report any shooting at night as poaching. :disgusted:
