When I decided to start carrying I was pretty sure that I would only conceal carry. In fact before I joined this forum I was certain i would only CC. I was like a lot of people thinking someone is going to freak out that i have a gun and I would end up handcuffed. Needless to say my knowledge as grown since then. Still the thought of OC made me nervous.
I haven't received my CWP yet, hopefully within the next couple weeks it should be here. So I have been wearing mainly around the house to get used to it. Yesterday I was doing just that, except I decided that when I leave the house my firearm is coming with me. I live in an apartment community, so a lot of potential people in a small area. So those first 20 yrds or so, from my door to my truck were nerve racking. My heart felt like it was going to pop straight out of my chest.
So the plans for the day were to go shopping with my wife and daughter out to The District. We ended up going to the box stores. What I didn't realize was the family hadn't even noticed I left the house with my firearm on my waist. As we are walking up to Sports Authority, they finally notice, my daughter was ok...the wife she was a little nervous..she expected hysteria. We walked through there without incident. I felt like i got a few strange looks but no one said anything. After that we continued up the row to other shops. Walked through 5 shops including Target without problems. After that we went a few more places with the same results. I probably OC'd for about 6hrs. It was a great expirence. My wife learned that the general public wasn't going to freak out if a gun is seen.
Even after this expeirence I will probably CC more then OC, but I now feel more comfortable doing either.
