My wife and I will be doing a day trip to Vegas tomorrow. I don't have a permit that will allow me to CC. Has anyone had experience with open carrying, especially on the strip?

I have looked around at opencarry.org's Nevada forum section, but its mostly just everyday day stuff (Walmart, walgreens, bank, Ross) nothing really specific to the strip.

We will be spending time on the strip and at circus circus.

I have open carried in Las Vegas twice, (a little bit around the strip), and never had any issues, but I have heard that the police around the strip are NOT very OC friendly. If you do open carry, I would be mentally prepared to be stopped, and be well versed on Las Vegas law.

I also found this: North Las Vegas Warning: The incorporated city of North Las Vegas has a city ordinance that prohibits the transportation of loaded guns in vehicles. Although this ordinance is in violation of NRS 268.418, the City of NLV has simply decided to ignore the state law. You may be cited, arrested, and prosecuted by the City of NLV for violating this ordinance (even though state law says they can't have the ordinance in the first place). A lawsuit has been filed against the City of NLV in Nevada District Court seeking to have the ordinance repealed.

Good to know. I did see that little tidbit about North Las Vegas on opencarry.org. Luckily I don't plan on venturing into North Vegas at all, I'll either be on the strip or on the freeway heading into/out of Vegas.

Be very careful if you OC in Las Vegas, NV. I saw a guy get arrested on the strip last month while I was there for the SHOT Show. LVMPD are not very OC friendly. About a dozen cops were on the poor guy.

Also, be careful when entering casinos. OC and CC are prohibited by most of the casinos. They will ask you to leave and in extreme circumstances will trespass you from the property.

When I was looking for this info I could not find it. I eventually called the concealed carry place and spoke with an officer. They first told me I could not have it with me. I asked if it could be in the glive box and she.said no but would look into it and call me back. She called me back 20 min later telling me she was correctedand you can have it in your glove box. So thats what I did. Didnt carry it around just jad it in the car close by. Sucks but was better than leaving it home.

I'm happy to report that we made the trip to Vegas without incident! We left STG about 0830 hours, arriving at about 0945 hours Vegas time. We parked at the MGM parking garage.

We wandered through the strip and various malls and casinos. We spent a good portion of the day at Adventuredome at Circus Circus. At about 1630 hours we continued up Las Vegas Blvd to the stratosphere. We planned on going on the three rides at the top of the tower, but it was surprisingly busy and we were told the lines were very long. Not wanting to get home too late, we opted to just stroll the mall at stratosphere . Knowing that we had a VERY long walk back to the MGM hotel, we pulled out our trusty map of the strip and found that there was a monorail station not too far away that would take us straight to MGM. We hit the road home at about 1830 hours and get back at about 2115 hours.

Other than having to say "No, Thank you." about a million times to the various solicitors for hotels, shows, clubs, and time share salesman, it was a pleasant trip.

We did encounter several homeless people on the arches that span between hotels and across Las Vegas Blvd, but none of them bothered us or anybody else. There was also a couple of meth heads asking for money from cars that had to stop for the light at Las Vegas Blvd & Sahara, but they didn't even look at us as we were waiting to cross the street.

Just another day in paradise.

I couldn't find any definitive answers on vehicle carry either. Maybe I'll just call them like you did and ask, can't hurt to get a "for sure" answer.

A handgun in a vehicle is lawful whether concealed in the vehicle or out openly. No laws against it until you conceal upon your person without a CFP. Put it in the glove box or center console loaded. Doesn't matter at all in Nevada. North Las Vegas has a law against it but their law is not valid per state law. Long gun or shotgun is a different story.

Thanks for clearing that up Berretta. I did see the The "no loaded long gun".

a year ago I went to Vegas and I borrowed a 642 airweight from a friend, since I had recently had surgery on my left wrist and it was in a cast, I couldn't run an auto very well. We parked at the Luxor, and checked in. We went upstairs and dropped our stuff off, and then went back to retrieve the rest of our bags. Someone had broken into the trunk and cleaned us out, including the revolver. So I spent half a day filling out a report. (The only reason I even bothered was because of the gun,) and I was annoyed by the lack of interest on the part of the LVPD. I tried to get the wolrd out so they could get it to the pawn shops asap, I couldn't even get a report filed until the following day.

I had recently acquired an AZ permit in anticipation of the trip, and NV dropped them while I was waiting. Personally I am resigned to not carrying in vegas.

Sheesh, that was quick! Do you think they were casing you? Were you guys driving a beater, or a nicer vehicle? I've always kind of wondered what thieves look for when deciding what to break into or not. It may depend a lot on the location.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Vegas, and I haven't ever attempted to carry there. Kudos to the brave ones who do.

I grew up in Vegas to have a handgun in the city you must have a blue card issued from the sheriffs dept. I don't remember it costing anything and I don't know if that applies to nonresidents, but a word of advice. DO NOT OC on the strip. My friend does open carry and has never been stopped, but never in the down town area. Since the strip is based on tourism, and for some reason people feel uncomfortable when they see a gun on your hip, they will stop you and do anything to get that gun out of sight. It suck. :disgusted:
