Earlier this summer, June or so, I had a number of door-to-door salesmen come round my place. It became frustrating because I had to ascend from the basement (where I work) every time someone rang. As I was expecting deliveries, this made it even more frustrating. As such I read through the laws of Bountiful City (where I live) and found that if I put up a sign saying "No Soliciting" - the salespeople could not ring my door or they would be breaking the law. All it required of me was to put up a sign.
First off, you are safest no answering the door to anyone that you do not recognize, ever.
You should not answer the door after dark unless it is a friend or family, people have no business knocking that late.
When you do let someone into you house (create an entry point), you should always have a firearm ready. What you did was good, but it would have been better to have the firearm on your person in case you are forced away from the door by an intruder.
Finally, I am glad that you are safe and I apologize sincerely for the behavior of some on this forum, that kind of behavior is not what we strive to promote here and will not be tolerated. While I disagree with some of your methods, it is not my place or that of any other user to attack or belittle you in any way.
I'm putting up a "No Soliciting sign as soon as I get home from work! Thanks for the advice. I always look to see if the caller is somebody I know and if not, I always have a gun handy. I'm trusting but cautious.
