mag - a tool for seeing in the dark that stands up to regular use under harsh conditions
tac light - a defensive tool used to be able to see in the darkest of abysses (or pocket dimensions
) in addition to disorienting someone by directing the beam into their eyes and/or signaling someone far away.
I purchased a Fenix light a year ago because I wanted something small enough to carry everyday comfortably and would light up something if I needed to. I didn't want to spend much, I bought the cheapest light they had on the table for $22 or something like that. It is by no means a tac light but it has convinced me of the quality difference in spending more for a flashlight. the model is the E01.
It has 1 LED and is powered by 1 AAA battery (one thing I looked for was cheap batteries) turns out the battery issue isn't a big deal after all because after TONS and TONS of use (I would bet easily over 50+ hours of use in the last year I have replaced the battery twice and it is very bright(for one LED). It only has a output of 10 lumens but that is plenty for finding the keyhole on the doorknob or changing an alternator on the side of the road, ect...
It has been the most reliable best cheapest operating cost light I could ever imagine and is small enough that I can always have it on me comfortable without even really noticing it.
That being said, it is not a Tac light, and I think thats what everyone is mixing up.
Just for kicks and giggles...
