Tweakers tend to be docile when spun out. Its the SOBER tweakers that will burglarize you. Even then, they don't have enough muscle or brains ...or teeth...to put up much of a fight.
Or drunk, or on coke, crack, PCP, or just large and angry. Or a mountain lion that crashed through the window.
None of my "ors" respect birdshot.
And I don't suspect my buckshot will blow through a guy, two walls, masonry, travel across the street, back through masonry, another couple of walls, and then into my neighbor.
What about 1/4" of glass..... Does your home have no window's? Or if you have kids and / or a wife tests have shown it can punch through an inch or less of drywall and still have lots of energy left.
I am confident in bird shot to do the job in most cases I would need it, that is why it is in spot number one.
My shot gun now has shots # 2-5 as 00 buckshot JUST INCASE.
Kind of the same theory as why my LCP has 5 JHP's and then 2 FMJ's.
I think bird shot is a VERY viable option in self defense, but I admittedly have never shot anyone with it and I pray I don't have to. I'll try to quit unnecessarily drawing out the conversation now. My points have been made.
This is why it pays to spend time mapping tactical paths in your home. Look at where you will be when a potential intruder could enter your home. Where will they enter from? What weapon can you grab? What are the lines of fire? What is your potential cover? Can you adjust any of those to make your defense scenario any safer for your environment?
This is what I have done in my home. I know which weapon I will have depending on what room I am in, and I know where I can and cannot discharge my weapon in order to be safe for those in my immediate area.
