First open carry! It was a good one. I was a little nervous about how the people around me would react, but I prefer to be armed and am used to carrying when at home. I like having my gun on me, so I decided to go for my first open carry today.
First stop at the gas station, filled up no problem, but got a long stare from another driver. No big deal.
Second stop ORiley's near 17th and State to get plugs and cables. The cashier noticed I was carrying and didn't even blink. However, the guy behind me in line definitely did notice and asked me what I carry. He was very friendly and we chatted guns while the clerk got my parts. All in all, no big deal and a good experience.
After changing my plugs and cables, I go for a drive, and stop in at Autozone for the wiper fluid I forgot earlier (I was definitely a little excited/nervous about having a gun on me in public for the first time!). While I'm paying at the register, the cashier sees something at my hip and says...
"Uh... Is that a, uh.. uh.. uh... a taser?"
I point at my gun and say "Oh, that's a pistol. I feel safer when I have it with me" and I smile. Poor kid was definitely nervous to the point of making me nervous, but I think me being a younger woman (and less intimidating) and giving him a nice smile helped put him at ease.
I think I will definitely start open carrying more often, til I get my permit.
