Not really. I do have a problem with a few individuals here in my area, but that would be really off-topic for this thread. My dad, and two of my brothers served missions. I'd say 75% of my extended family on my side is LDS. I attended for almost 20 years regularly. I no longer do, but I've voted for, work with, and am friends with many LDS people. From my own experience I do believe the church conditions people to vote a certain way even if they won't get up at the stand and say "Everyone must vote for X". Do you have issues with me believing there is a trend that you disagree with? I think there IS a trend with voting in Utah. Didn't know discussing it suddenly made me a bigot. Just like there is trends with voting in other states based on a candidates race/religion/other factor. I don't think I've said anything real bad personally. I've tried to answer honestly everything you've asked. You seem to ignore most of what I say and try to attack motives rather than discuss.
The quip about the sale of Main Street is really pretty lame unless you equally object to the other sales of streets to various private entities that have taken place over the years in SLC.
That was joke, hence the smiley face. I was in no way serious about it.
I realize this is someone else here, but I ask a general question like this, without insinuating anything, just asking if they feel more people in Utah are interested in the election this year and how they see it trending here:
For the people disagreeing, have you talked with your friends/relatives/neighbors at all about it? What different trends are you seeing?
And i get this back:
Do you mean have I tried to talk people out of supporting Romney?
I don't believe once in this thread I said people should vote for Obama, Romney, Newt, or anyone else.
But you seem intent on suggesting that LDS are bigoted against non-LDS even as you make excuses for why non-LDS are not bigoted against LDS
Wait, are you saying only non-LDS people are bigoted and it only goes one direction here? I never said it wasn't out there at all. I said there was no other groups big enough to really show anything. I'm not making excuses for anyone. Can you point me to an anti-lds voting rally around here? Maybe those numbers are bigger than I realize. Go ahead and point them out if they exist. I'll read any links you want to post. You asked about LDS mayors in SLC, I pointed out the last LDS mayor there was also a democrat. I think an LDS guy could have a good chance winning SLC currently as long as he's democrat. I ask you about Orem/Provo as a non-LDS republican and you don't even reply, just start the motive seeking, while ignoring the discussion.
Why don't you go ask Curt Oda if he has any problems winning votes from LDS in Davis county? I mention him only because he is one of the few elected officials whose religious affiliation I happen to know
I don't know him. Why don't you ask him for me, and post his response? I'd definitely be interested to hear what he had to say even if it differs from my current opinions. I'm more than willing to change my mind, are you?
