If after this past week you're not convinced to carry everywhere, you need to pay attention. Good thing MT law says nothing about CCW in churches!

Amen. Now if we could just go back to the days before religion mixed with politics, and when I could (&did) carry in church here in Utah I and thousands more would probably sleep better knowing we would be safer in the same type of events as occurred in Colorado this past weekend. Not being able to is an  embarrassment. It is also carries risks and one day the people may say, "Enough of this tripe, carry is legal everywhere!"
Hopefully the SCOTUS will make the right decision and we wouldn't need to worry more--but that may still be saying a lot?

I think that it is interesting to note that the so called “Security Guard” is a member of the congregation who has a permit to carry. She volunteered to act as security at the second church meeting of the day, having already attended a worship service in the morning, after the shooting the night before. She is not a professional security guard.

Yes two sisters died, but how many more would have if she hadn’t run to the sounds of firing and taken this scum bag out.

I wonder if "Security Guard" could be a church calling... Receive permission from the bishop of your ward and then just always sit on the back row by the main doors or something like that while having a CC-ed pistol.

Assuming the bishop bought into this would it make carrying a gun in your church building legal?

Unfortunately I think things are going to continue to get much worse in this respect before they get better... IMHO, this is one of the main sources of all of our Nation's ills -- but, seemingly, not one that looks like it's going to be improving...

Utah code 76-10-530 is where this is defined. It does say...

(3) A church or organization operating a house of worship and giving notice that firearms are prohibited may:
(b) provide or allow exceptions to the prohibition as the church or organization considers advisable.
I'm not sure the bishop has the permission from the church to do this, but if he did give permission, I think you'd be in pretty good shape from a legal perspective.

That is what I was thinking, I just was not sure if a bishop had the power to OK such a thing.

I think if the Bishop gives permission, he is acting as an Agent for the church in this aspect.... Just my 2 cents.

Here is a re-post of one of my earlier posts;

Posted: Sun 04 Nov 2007 9:35 pm Post subject: Two conflicting laws

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden they were First told to Multiply and Replenish the Earth and Second they were told to Not partake of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

They had to have a choice and they made the right one.

We have First been told that if we do not provide for our own we are worse than an infidel. Providing for our own includes providing for their safety. 1 Timothy 5:8

Second we were told that it would be an infraction if we carried in LDS Churches in Utah.

Now we also have a choice. Let us chose wisely.
