Springfield Armory is showing an added "Thumb Safety" on their 2008 XD models. I personally think this is a bad idea. Don't get me wrong, one of the reasons I bought the XD-45 was for its "safety" but a thumb safety seems a little bit over the top. What happens in a stressful situation when you pull out the XD only to remember after pulling the trigger that the "thumb safety" was on...oops!

What are your thoughts on this? :?:

It was my understanding this was only an option. I think adding it as an option makes sense some people may want it. However I hope they don't stop making them without it because I think most people won't want it.
I hope your right. I can see this being a good feature on the range if you don't plan on carrying, but carrying - I think it is a bad idea. Can anyone verify?

Springfield is probably trying to compete in the military's search for a new sidearm. Military requirements specify an active safety mechanism not connected to the trigger.

That's my guess, anyway.

I do like the idea since I carry Kimber and S&W with thumb safety. I always wanted an XD and now I can finally buy one.

1 more safety to deal with... Yuck. What ever happened to keeping your finger off the trigger? Other than that a safeguard for dropping your gun is all you need.
