My name is Chris and I was introduced to the UCC website by my bud Jerry. There's really not much to tell about me. The only gun I own at the moment is a double-barrel shotgun, but I have fallen for the SA-XDs (in particular the .45 4" compact OD bi-tone with high capacity mag) and will have one later this year. It seems to me that one is the best of both worlds, for CC and OC that is!!! I do not have my CFP yet either, but have completed the course and will be submitting my application shortly, so hopefully that will be remedied soon! I live in a newer part of WVC (I can see RMR from my front door!) and work down in "Happy Valley"...boy what a commute!

What has prompted my desire to get my CFP and to purchase a gun are all the recent home invasions, robberies, kidnappings/murders, and public/school shootings. I want to be able to protect my family (and myself) and defend my property, if need be. I just don't feel all that safe anymore.

Well...that's about it...so here's a cheerful, "Hello", to everyone on the forum. I thoroughly have enjoyed all of the insightful and intelligent discussions/debates and all the wealth of information provided in the forum posts I've read. It feels good to be part of such a dedicated, fun, knowledgeable, and welcoming community.

[EDIT] Oh, I'm a 38 year old male...just in case anyone was wondering!
[EDIT 2] Turned in my CFP application today (5-15-08)...so hopefully 7 to 8 weeks from now, I'll have it!

Wow! Great intro! Thanks! I congratulate you on taking the course. The world is a scary place, but we don't have to be scared, we just need to be prepared. Get that permit application in soon - you'll wait about 7 weeks to get your permit!

The XDs are nice - they are coming out with a new (remodel) this year called the XD-M that you should check out - you might want to hold off on your purchase and grab one of these instead, who knows :?:

Have a great time here and make yourself at home! Post often and ask anything you'd like.

Yeah, got to hold one today as a matter of fact (Gunnies has one)! It looks so much like the current models, but for $700 premimum vs. $500, I think I'll stick with the non-M.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Great reasons to carry a handgun. Welcome aboard and thanks for the great introduction.

I think the XD is a good choice for the money.

Welcome and post often.
I carry an XD45 Compact and one of the reasons why I choose it is I can shoot it just as well with the compact magazine as with the hicap mag. In fact since I can get all fingers on the compact mag I never shoot with the hicap ones. I like that I can pound at the range with the exact same gun and setup as what I carry.

Welcome to the forum. I carry the XD45 Service because the compact was not out when I purchased my pistol. The compact if very nice and I would consider getting one but I am happy with the service for now.
