Just chiming in to say hi. Pretty new to Utah (Moved in August) and am persuing my CCW. Have a bit of a wait (Until Feb.) but not by choice, but due to age restrictions. Looking into getting a Glock 32 (.357 Sig) when possible.

I came from Southern Oregon and was part of Jackson County Search and Rescue. If things go as planned I am hoping to apply for Utah County SAR.

Although young, I have been around firearms my entire life. I grew up knowing you don't hug daddy on his right side. Weekend fun with my father was going to regional shooting competitions, reloading, and casual target shooting.

I have lurked for a week or two and found some very informative posts, so thanks for that already!

Welcome to the forum. Please feel free to ask anything you'd like.

Any possibility of talking you out of a Glock and into a Springfield XD?
There is the possibility. Never shot a XD though, so right now the winner is a the G32. Dont know anyone in UT to go shoot with that has one.

Well, you have come to the right place. There are many happy XD owners here that I am sure would love to go shooting with you. If you can't arrange something like that, you could always go to a local shooting range and rent a few guns (including an XD of course). Doug's Shoot 'N Sports, Impact Guns, and Get Some Guns 'N Ammo all should have XDs available to rent. Get Some has a nice new range that I still need to try out. Give them a call and see what they have in terms of rentals. Buying a gun (assuming you can due to the whole Oregon issue) is a big deal and you want to make sure you are getting something you love (saves you from having to go through the hassle of selling it to buy a replacement later on). Let me know if I can do anything else for ya!

It's been weeks since I killed me a target.

Hey! Welcome to the forum! I graduated from Westminster College in 2006 - I hope your wife likes it there - I sure did! :D

I was debating between Glock and XD as well. I rented it at Get Some off State St and I fell in love with the XD and ended up buying the 40 SC. I would definately go check it out. I love it!

"Dark Side"?!?! I resent that comment. If the Glock is so superior, why are there companies out there making safety devices such as the SiderLock and the SAF-T-BLOCK? I don't see anything like that for the XD... Now... which gun is better? Come on, I know you want to admit I'm right

UPDATE: I just found this picture and HAD to add it in.

Only stupid or lazy people need safeties. If you don't trust yourself to carry a gun cocked and ready to fire maybe you should get a tazer.

I'm not talking about me. I just saying that if there is a whole industry built upon adding extra safeties to a gun it sure shows there is a need - be it poor design or ineptitude. Granted the XD hasn't been around for as long, but take a look at the industry and you will see that no major line of guns other than the Glock has this kind of need for additional safeties.

I do agree with your statement, but I wasn't referring to more safeties as a solution (why the XD is better), I just think that Springfield looked at the Glock and said, "What's wrong here and how can we make our new product better?"

I agree. It is easy to screw up with a glock, and much harder with an XD. I just think the more safeties a gun has the more that could go wrong if you ever really needed it.

I agree 100%. It seems like Springfield took every single complaint from Glock owners and improved on the whole package by creating the XD.

Welcome to our forum, NotSoSimple!
We're glad to have you join us here.

Now, see what you started? We just gotta go and have another XD vs. Glock battle, right in your introduction thread.

I carry a Glock 27 and love it.
I would probably equally love an XD if I had one.

Aaaaand ... I wouldn't want a taser anywhere near what that cartoon shows...

Welcome to the Forum. Stick with what YOU like and don't let anyone tell you different. It's your decision, your life, and your money. Go to a gun range and rent what they have. If you all ready know what you like, then get it. Your number one safety is your Mind.
