You can always get a general archery tag . . . there are usually more of them than people who apply for them so can be picked up over the counter. That's how I'll be hunting this year--I have awful luck in rifle hunt draws.
Nah Arrows are dangerous, there is a much higher % of people who die by AD (Accidental Discharge) of a bow and arrow then die by AD of a guns.

(True fact, BS reason. Wife wont let me get into Arrows and guns, I have to choose)

That's the only way I hunt deer. The tag I failed to draw was a muzzleloader any bull elk tag. I quit rifle hunting years ago. Way too much chance of actually shooting something.

 Yeah, I'm about that way too. I don't think about pulling the trigger unless I know it's going on the wall. And if it's in some big canyon miles from the road, it has to be a real monster before I even think about it.

But with archery hunting, I stand a pretty good chance of dieing of boredom.

Really? I've had some of the most amazing wildlife experiences of my life while bowhunting. My favorite has to be the time I got knocked off a log by a playful fawn who was kind of bouncing side to side as it went down the trail. It (and its mother) had no idea I wasn't just another bush. I reflexively wrapped my arms around the fawn to catch it as I fell over, and I could have held on and picked it up, easy as anything.

Whether I'm sitting motionless and blending in, quietly creeping through the forest or actually stalking, I feel like I become part of the nature around me when I'm bowhunting. I could do the same thing without the bow, of course, and on occasion I dress up and head out with my camera, but never with quite the same intensity.

I drew out for southern turkey this year...after four years, and my luck of drawing out for deer is twice as bad! That's why I went the dedicated hunter route this year...guaranteed for two out of three years! :p
