I'm planning on using part of my economic stimulus check (thanks George!) to restock my ammo supplies a bit in my house. So, do any of you know where the best price is locally (Northern Utah) for .40 S&W ammo? How about .30-06 rounds for my rifle?

Thanks

Nowhere. Ammo prices are outrageous everywhere. If you're looking to really stock up, I'd definitely go online and shop for a good deal. Even with shipping you'll be MUCH better off than buying locally if you're looking at 1000+ rounds. For .30-06 and similar, Wal-Mart if they have what you're looking for or C-A-L Ranch. Pretty much everywhere else I know of is content with screwing you over. :beat:

On these same lines, would there be enough people on here interested in a big group buy for ammo? I'm assuming that's legal. I'd be happy to coordinate as I'm looking for a couple thousand cheap 9mm right now and if we could get many thousand (maybe 10,000+) I think we could negotiate a good price ("good price" being relative, of course, to prices of year's past).

I'd be interested in some cheap, bulk 9mm. I wouldn't think there should be a problem with reselling ammo like that.

I would buy 1000 rounds+ of all of:
.45 auto
.223 rem or 5.56
9MM

I also would buy a 3-5 hundred rounds of:
40 S&W
.380 auto
30.06
.22-250

I was planning on going to the gun show in April just to buy ammo, but wasn't able to. I have cash in hand....just waiting for the right price. I don't have time to coordinate this, but I would gladly buy from someone that does.

I just picked up 2000 rounds at the latest gunshow for $168 per 1000. Since I know it will get used, I wouldn't mind another 1000 or so. One can never have enough ammo and it's not like it will go bad any time soon.

Ammo is hard to come by, and prices are crazy. I have been watching 5.56 for quite a while. I remember buying HSM factory seconds for about $80/500, and not that long ago. its double that plus some now. I was getting blazer brass .45acp from Walmart, but even that has gone up.I find myself shooting wolf these days, something I swore I would never do. Stuff works ok, and doesnt seem to be doing any damage to my guns, so I'll keep shooting it. http://www.ammoman.com/webstore_home.htm seems to have about the best deals, and no shipping charge which means you pay what you see. I havent used them, but probably will. I am concentrating on purchasing things that will be hard to come by during the upcoming obama ban, so ammo is on the back burner for the moment, but I do need to buy more. :ack:

Thanks for the suggestion, looks like Gallenson's has the best prices currently (by a little bit). I bought 1000 rounds of .40S&W FMJ, and 100 rounds of .40S&W hollow-point. I also picked up some .30-06 rounds for this year's deer hunt.

If there's an opportunity to do a group buy, I'd be interested in getting in on it.

I buy my .40 S&W at Walmart. 100 rounds of Remington (180gr) will run you $33 and some chang after tax. They have target ammo Winchester 100 box (165gr) for 26.99 I believe. The 50 round boxes will run you about $15.95 or so.
