2446 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  GeneticsDave
Im now an owner of a shiny new G32 in .357 Sig. Thanks again to Jo @ Howling Wold Arms. Deffinately will be taking my business there.

I figured I would consult the 'experts' on what CCW/Defense rounds I should pick up. Anyone have any reccomendations? One reccomendation is Speer Gold Dots.

Although Gold Dots are very popular and are a nicely constructed bullet, my best success and accuracy have come with Hornady TAP ammunition. I admit, I am a gun phreak of a pretty high degree. I subscribe to about 5 gun magazines and read a LOT about various calibers and ammunition. In 95% of my readings, I have taken notice that Hornady ammunition nearly always comes out on top as far as accuracy. So I decided to try it for myself. Remember that day you and I went to LeeKay? Remember the distance of those first targets at the pistol range? They're about 15-17 yards. Well, I've taken boxes of Hornady ammo (.45 ACP) and have been able to place EVERY SINGLE SHOT in the black circle of those NRA targets. Every shot.

So here are my preferences:

1. Hornady TAP-FPD (loaded with XTP bullets)
2. Federal HydraShok
3. Speer Gold Dot

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

$5 fine for NO PICTURES!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will go out shopping tonight.

Yeah no pics. The wife took my camera to school to take some pictures of her 1st graders and it has not yet returned. Tonight possibly!
I agree with Tapehoser. The brands he listed are great. I use Federal Premium HydraShok Law Enforcement rounds. They are a little cheaper than the "Personal Defense" rounds and perform similarly (I get 50 rounds for $20 as opposed to 20 rounds for $20).
I'm also looking at the following:

Extreme Shock - Air Freedom
Winchester Ranger SXT or T-Series
No to totally hijack this thread but what about for other calibers? .40 S&W? How do people feel about the Remington Golden Saber HPJ?
Im not familiar with the .357 sig. I'd like to be but dont have the cash right now  And a 10mm is next on my list.

In .40 im a big fan of Federal HST. They are known to expand to a little over double their original size.

Honestly you should get a box of each top name defensive round and see what reliably feed, fires, and hits at point of aim for you and your gun.

Heres one of the Federal HST ( on the right) in full open, most .40's will expand almost enough to cover a quarter. The one on the left is ranger T

Went by Sportsmans last night and boy was I dissappointed. Only 3 boxes of .357 sig: Federal Personal Defense (50 count), Speer Gold Dot (20 count), or WInchester Target Loads (50 count). Asked when they will get more in and the gal said they dont know what comes in, it just shows up  I grabbed the Gold Dots for ~$21.

As money permits (And the wife) I will try the other brands as well, but for now these shal do.

Who else has a good selection locally?
Dave,

Where do you get your LE Federal Hydra shocks in 50 count? I have not seen them on the shelfs where I regularly look.

Cabelas
Sportsmens
Gunnies

Thanks.

I don't know where he gets his, but I get 50rd boxes at Gallenson's. I've been able to get 124gr. Hydra-Shok (+P+ and standard), 124gr. HST Tactical +P, and others marked LE. I'm don't go there very often and they usually have something different when I do.

I've also found 50rd boxes at Impact Guns in Kearns from time to time.
I get mine from gallensons also. go see brandon there
Where are they located?

Go see Brandon huh  My names Brandon. At first I looked at it and wondered how you knew who I was?
