I don't know if it's OK to ask this question. So if it's not I'm sure someone can see that it's deleted.

I've noticed that some people have deleted or obfuscated there answers to the question posed in the "What do you carry and how. SIMPLE RESPONSE ONLY!!!" thread. Some going as far as going back and editing old threads. I respect their desire to keep this information confidential.

My question is why? Is this something I should be concerned about?

That should worry you enough.
All that tells me is that everything I post on this site is public information that anyone can access. I also know that if they really wanted to they could connect this information to me as a person. As such I don't want to post anything I don't want on public record. So back to my original question why wouldn't I want my carry weapon type and method on public record?

eh... it may just be me, but I don't want people to know what I carry unless I tell them directly. For example, I don't mind telling my current boss what I carry because he carries too. But I may not want my next boss to know until I feel comfortable.
Now I know we all use aliases here, but that's just an example.

I am one who deleted a post. To make a long story short, GeneticsDave posted in the thread suggesting that we were making a DeFacto gun registration list. He said something like "No way am I posting my gun info". I was a little bit bothered (OK a bunch bothered) with his response in the thread so I did a quick search of his posts and within 10 minutes had his specific gun and carry method posted. I thought it was kind of funny. I basically said since he won't post his gun info I will do it for him because I knew full good and well he had stated that information before on this forum and it was ALREADY public knowledge. I searched his old posts and sure enough found his gun and carry method in his previous posts. Dave sent me a PM politely asking me to delete my post with his info in it which I did and he deleted his post that didn't fit in the thread. Everything is cool between us.

I for one am not concerned about posting some personal information. The least of my worries is my gun. Now if someone asked for serial numbers I wouldn't post that. I figure anyone that really wants to know who I am could figure it out real quick so what do I have to hide. As a member of this forum it is OBVIOUS I have a gun and carry concealed so what difference does it make stating the gun and carry method. I guess the real question is who are you afraid of? What are you afraid of? And why? This is a personal decision. Some people don't want any personal info revealed. Others use there own name as their screen name. So it is a personal decison on how much info you reveal. If you are that concerned about it, I would suggest that you don't have anything to do with the internet. Simply being a member reveals info in my opinion and computer geeks can figure out who, what, when etc pretty fast now days. I don't loose sleep over it.

I guess it really is just a personal thing. How much information about yourself and your possessions do you want anyone to be able to find out. What if you were involved in a legal suit, would you want what you have said used in court? What if we lose our rights to own firearms, would you want the confiscators to have a list of what you own? What if someone you know reads a post of yours online and realizes that you carry?

Granted, these are all hypothetical and some are more or less likely to actually occur. The real question is what do you feel comfortable with? Some may view obfuscating this information as being paranoid, while others may see it as being prudent.

To be honest, I don't know why it bothered me at all. I am one of those computer geeks that will find out everything about you in 30 minutes or less. 8)
Having said that, I'm happy to tell people what guns I own, but I won't tell people where on my body I carry or when I am carrying, though someone could easily guess. Frankly it's just none of their business unless I want it to be.

This is an interesting question. Some may actually benefit from showing their posts. Could be good....could be bad. Guess this one depends on your posts and history. I would hope the whole of my posts would reflect a safe, careful, lawabiding citizen.

It is hard to guess who may be looking at these forums. For sure whatever you post is available to any one in the world who can access the internet.

I also realize it isn't very hard to find out lots of information about the participants in the forum. That is additional information besides what each one posts himself.

So, should I be concerned? Is anything I post going to came back and haunt me? I doubt it, as long as posts are of good taste and not filled with malice.

Frankly I don't care if the world knows me or that I carry a gun. I even went so far as to post my face on the forum, along with some others, with their permission. I don't think that being known poses any threat to me. If anything it just increases my circle of friends.

If there is to be a forum it requires talk. Since this is a CC forum it follows that the talk is going to include our guns. Thanks to those who are willing to share of their experiences and knowlege.

Well, that is my take on it, and you must decide what is good for you.
