Cheap FMJ .357 Magnum rounds

We picked up a load of .357 Magnum rounds a while back on a special at a gun show in Tulsa (my folks used to live there, but are now back in Salt Lake). They are FMJ rounds, and are likely reloads.

Question is, do you guys get lots of...I don't know what to call it... "jacket-spit??" when firing full-metal jacket rounds out of a .357 revolver? I realize that round travels through mid-air for a hair of a mm as it leaves the cylinder, but MAN! It must be shedding bits of jacket -- they fly out the sides and like to bite us in the face!

Both my dad and I picked up small bleeder scratches on our face/ears from the blowback. I've always known eye protection was important, but now I really KNOW why. That stuff could put out an eye for sure!

Shooting lead or JHP we don't get that problem at all. Anyone had similar experience?

I believe it's just burnt powder escaping from between the cylinder and forcing cone.

Nothing is touching that bullet until it hits the inside of the forcing cone and the lands. Hence, there's no way bits of lead or copper could escape between the cylinder and forcing cone.

It could be, but one FOR SURE we know was a bit of jacket. We actually picked a piece of copper "shrapnel" out of my Dad's face.

I've never experienced it, or heard of it. I'm very partial to firing FMJ since I hate to clean out lead.
