I thought I'd should communicate with everyone and let you know I haven't fallen off the edge of the earth.
I was not present on the hill much this year and haven't been out and about much either.
I'll shorten this by quite a bit .
My little girl Addie has not been well. Last November around her 6th birthday she complained of severe joint pain. Dr's at Primary Children's said it was most likely JRA Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. After several weeks that condition resolved itself without any treatment.
But….they had been doing blood tests on a weekly basis. In addition to watching for other things they noticed some odd red and white cell counts.
Case then was transferred to Oncologist/Hematologist. They did a bone marrow biopsy/aspiration (where they take a sample of the hip bone marrow.)
Good news is that it was not leukemia. Bad news was that it is Aplastic Anemia 2/100,000,000 kids get this. A failure of the bone marrow to produce enough blood cells, red, white or platelets.
10 days ago she finished her first course of drug therapy, hopefully her only course too. 4 days of treatment meant to suppress her immune system to allow the bone marrow to do its job. She not been able to go to school for a while because of her compromised immune system. Between that, and her 2-3 times a week blood draws, tests, transfusions and 4 times a day medications I have stayed home with her and as such been out of service.
This has been going on more or less since November but has increased dramatically in the last 2 months.
Anyway, we hope she can get back to school after spring break if her levels are up. She is in great spirits and actually has lots of energy but gets tired easily, and bruises easily and needs to wear a mask while around groups of people.
We are hoping for remission in the next few to several months and that she will just grow out of it.
So.....that is the reason I've been somewhat ....absent.
Please Remember little Adelaide (Addie) in your prayers.
Thanks,
Clark Aposhian
