Third Place:

After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a
man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop
was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter.
Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up!, and fired
a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly
returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The
robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics Crime scene
investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The
subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds
from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt.

That's hilarious!   :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

The story as given isn't accurate, though, and it didn't win "third place". This happened in 1990, before the Darwin Awards got organized enough to rank the "winners". Also, the robber was only shot four times, and only the robber, the cop and the clerk fired, though several other patrons did draw their guns, ready to pitch in if needed.

Hilarious!
Regardless as to whether or not the perp was shot seven or 23 times he was still an idiot! Must have had a suicide wish or had never seen a squad car before. Ans to rob a gun store? This person was definitely not all there  , and by the time it was over his spirit was gone too! The selection tree was mighty slim that day!

Unless he had a whole slew of them prior to this incident. That's the problem with the Darwin Awards - it doesn't really remove his genetic material from the pool, it just removes him as a donor from that point forward... he could have 20+ "chilins" with multiple women...

Yeah. If it were possible to accurately and reliably determine whether or not the candidate had children, those who have reproduced would be disqualified. Since they can't determine that, they don't disqualify people with kids. It is a factor considered in the voting that establishes ranking, though.
