It looks as though Salt Lake City is what most people are going for. I just talked to Jeff Johnson and he was saying if we could nominate someone else to plan the Dec. event that would be great. What do you think about Utoc-45-44 if he is up to it, I know he lives in Salt Lake. Also some people mentioned a speaker, my stepfather use to play for the Denver Broncos and him and my mom are coming into town on the 17th of December. They are both professional motivational speakers and I know if I asked them to speak they wouldn't mind.

What do you think about exchanging white elephant gifts for Christmas. That way there wouldn't be a set price....something free or expensive your choice. I think it would be fun!!!! Any other suggestions?

SLC sounds great! I think it would be great to hear your parents speak!

I also think white elephant gifts would be great! What about requiring them to be gun-related... would that be too hard/expensive???

Maybe we should consider doing this one a few days AFTER Christmas so there won't be conflicts with people's work and family parties???

I think it would be great to do a white elephant gift exchange. We will need to find a larger facility for this event. I also think that on such short notice your Dad would be much appreciated. I will work to find a speaker for January that is closer to the firearms industry. I have a couple of calls in already.

I am also working with a friend at one of the local television stations to cover the event. If anyone else is wanting to work in a PR role please let me know who you are contacting. I am calling in a favor on the TV coverage but they will want an exclusive on TV coverage.

I am also more than happy to help find a venue. UTOC please let me know if you are willing to organize and if so what we can do to help.

It looks like this will be a great event!

Let me know if you guys want any help. I am actually in Salt Lake more than I am in Layton, and it won't take much to put the meet together.
The hardest part of organizing these events is going to be keeping up with the size of the group and finding venues that are large enough to accomodate everyone. Most of the places that have large banquet/conference rooms require that you either pay a fee to rent them, or that you actually use their services (eating dinner or lunch).

The NRA has a neat program called Refuse To Be a Victim. It was originally started by the women of the NRA and has evolved to include men in their classes. It is designed to increase an individuals awareness of their surrounding, preparedness, proper mindset, etc. It is a great program. I have been teaching this course for a while now, and eveytime I teach it, I am amazed at the transformation of some of the students. As I was thinking about speakers etc for upcoming events, I was thinking that maybe we should include training of sort for one of our events. It is great to get everyone together, but what do we actually learn that will help us be better prepared. Anyway, just a thought. Let me know if you guys want me to help with anything. B

Too bad we can't just use a church's gym... lol; that would make things nice and easy. Finding a free to use non LDS place in Utah can prove hard to do. I know of some good Outdoor places with gazebos that would not be bad, but not everyone is as immune to cold as I am. My family has a lodge that they use regularly that would hold 30-50 people quite well. I will see if using it would be a possibility (if not for this time, then there is always next time). Sadly many of them have a negative view of guns so it is still an iffy thing. What date are we looking at? 15th?

Keep in mind that a date before Christmas will be very hard to find a restuarant with a large room due to the fact that so many companies have Christmas parties during this time. (I know...my wife had to call about 20 resturants yesterday before she found a place we could have our company party...)

Maybe after Christmas would be a good idea, SGT Jensen has drill on the 15th and 16th so we wouldn't make it if it was then. Also if you guys would like my step dad and mom to talk they don't get into town until the 17th and leave on the 8th of Jan. to fly back to North Carolina, so it would have to be within those dates. You guys let me know.

If you guys are shooting for the 29th, then I will have to bow out....I will be in Green Bay at the Packers game that weekend. The more I think about the frequency of our events, I am almost thinking that we might want to wait until the middle of January, let everyone get through the holidays, let the media coverage wear down a little bit, and that will make it "exciting" for the media outlets to cover our re-emerging events. I am thinking that taking a break here and there will allow some down time so it doesn't get to be "old news". Obviously we are not just doing these events for the press coverage, but it does make our mission of education and exposure much more effective.

What do you guys think? B

You are 100% correct in the fact that we don't need to include the press everytime. There are all kinds of things we can do such as shooting, speakers, etc, just like we have been talking about. I sent your wife a message for you guys to go over as well, let me know what you think. B

Maybe we could combine the December meet with the other thread mulling over when to have a forum with Mitch Vilos. We'll need to pay Mitch to present on the gun laws (it is part of his lawyer thing he does) but I'm sure an enjoyable time would be had by all.

Hey, that's a *GREAT* idea... course the problem is that there might be plenty of members here and over at the other forum who for various reasons might not be able to afford it, even after Mitch has lowered his prices... it's a good idea, but there is that down-side to it... I thought maybe we could do the class and have a regular M&G afterwards for anyone who wants to come eat and chat but can't afford the class... but then the consideration is that the class is 3-4 hours and how many people will want to hang around very long after that to eat and chat???
