Well, the lunch/dinner went off great. I would guesstimate we had around 25 people. SGT Jensen took the pics, so he should be along shortly with an official count and such.

When I arrived at the restaurant, 2 West Valley City officers were entering the building and I was right behind them. Supposedly there had just been some shoplifting crime committed close by and when they saw a bunch of folks with guns, they decided to investigate. When our forum members were asked about the 'whys' and 'wherefores' of their weapons, they responded that it was an Open Carry lunch and we were simply practicing our right to do so. :D

We began by eating and socializing amongst each other, putting faces with forum handles and such. They were a few folks from OpenCarry.org there as well. It was great to finally meet Jeff and UTOC and lots of other great folks. I got to meet Mjolnir, who has been an acquaintance for a long time, but I never knew who he was. His wife was lovely to meet as well!

After it was clear we were near the end of the food portion, we listened to a few words from packingmama's parents who were visiting from out of state. They spoke a lot about making sure we get involved in keeping the rights we have.

We were priviliged to hear from Mitch Vilos as well. He spoke about many of his court cases and we got to hear firsthand about what to expect and avoid should the circumstance ever arise where one of us had to defend ourselves with our firearms. Mitch brought several copies of his book. Had I remembered he was going to be there, I'd have brought a little dough to buy the book. Perhaps at the next meet!

Oh...and I got volunteered by Jeff and packingmama to organize the next meet. As we spoke, it seemed that most folks wanted to have another meet-n-greet sooner vs. later, so answer the poll question, if you would.

I don't suppose anybody recorded the speakers? I'd be really interested in a transcript of what Mitch and everybody who spoke had to say. :D

Nope. Sorry. I'm not sure how well a recording would have worked, unless we'd had the speakers wear mics. It was pretty noisy in the restaurant.

Yep! This turned out to be a great event.
I appreciated PackingMama's parents speaking to us.
I also appreciated Mitch Vilos giving lots of good information about the pitfalls to avoid regarding carrying and self-defense.

I would also like to thank UTOC-45-44 for organizing this event. Great job!

I would have loved to be there but I had other holiday events going on. I hope to be to our next meet & greet, especially if Mitch or any one else of good stature in the carrying community may be speaking.
