I have a 1/3 size IDPA target (it fits on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper) taped to my bedroom wall at the head of our bed. So if I stand at the foot of my bed, say 7 feet away, I'm aiming at the equivalent of a full-size target at 7 yds.
It's a rare day that I don't spend a few minutes dry firing at it, and practicing a draw. I use a magazine filled with dummy rounds (for weight) and topped by a couple of snap caps. The snap caps are red, and I want that visual assurance that what I'm chambering is truly safe, and that the live ammo is nowhere around when I practice.
I also have a bullseye target I practice on, trying to put my (dry fire) shots very carefully into a small X ring. I can't admit to being a great shot, but I can see the practice has paid off when I'm shooting at the range.
