Glock Defensive Handgun Course

I just returned from a 2 day 16 hour Glock Defensive Handgun Course at Oregon Firearms Academy in Brownsville Oregon. I have attended many firearms training classes. However, this one beats them all. There is a great Hotel right in brownsville and it is only about 1.5 hours from portland if you fly in.

Oregon Firearms Academy was the first school in the United States to offer a Glock specific course to the general public. OFA has the blessing of Glock to teach this course in fact the gave OFA a bunch of freebie merchandise to give to the students.

We started the class off with a qualification shoot just to see where everyone was at. Then we got to work with multiple moving targets, wobblers, running man, charger, and shooting tree targets. We shot a steel and cardboard targets. The second day was more tactical training. Defensive mindset which is often overlooked but the most important of self defense tools was a large component.

On that second day we shot from many positions including, standing, kneeling, sitting, laying on our backs, and prone. We learned how to fight to our feet while engaging our attacker.

We also got to go through the shoot house to learn about clearing a building. This is set up in a very realistic way. We had an instructor behind us acting as the voice of the people inside. There was music playing and plenty of distractions. This really allowed you to see what it would feel like to be in a decision making position under stress.

I really would suggest that anyone interested in obtaining some great training at a very reasonable price check out Oregon Firearms Academy. I plan on coming out from Utah atleast once per year to do more training including thier intermediate and advanced tactical shotgun courses.
