In the wake of the SCOTUS decision in Castle Rock v. Gonzales, that rules -- once again -- that the police have no obligation to protect citizens, even with restraining orders in place, here is an excellent article by Wendy McElroy advocating self-defense:

The Right to Self-Defense

...Given the court's position that the police are not obliged to protect us, responsible adults need the ability to defend themselves. Thus, no law or policy should impede the access to gun ownership. ...
Don't expect this to sway the gun-banners, but I sure sent this article to my sister who recently asked rather insistently why do I carry? Check out the article...

Read that last week. Thanks, Jeff.

I've sent this article along with this one:

http://www.jpfo.org/ragingagainstselfdefense.htm

...to my wife to help her understand my reasons for carrying. She keeps asking "Why do you need to carry??? Have you ever been in a situation that you'd have been better off carrying than not?"

I always respond, "No. And I hope I never am in a situation where I have to draw my weapon!"

I enjoy me 2nd Ammendment rights and will continue to do so - now with ever-more vigilance and determination!!!
