I can't remember about last year, does anyone know if there are restrictions of carry at the show like there was at the Gun Show?

I assume that you're talking about The 2nd Annual Western Hunting & Conservation Expo to be held on Februay 6 â€" 9, 2008 in the Salt Palace.

I don't know what their policy is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same as the gun shows in Sandy. It's not actually an anti-gun policy. The reason for it is that their insurance requires this policy. Mixing mostly unloaded guns with a few loaded guns is rather a risk of a negligent discharge, so it is not a surprise.

You can try contacting the sponsors at the link above.
Though I do not like the rule, not law, set down at the gun shows they recently did come into play. At the January gun show I believe there was a negligent discharge of a firearm. The moment it happened 1,000 voices stopped talking and heads started looking around. I didn't hear of, or see any paramedics, so I guess someone was evicted from the show, or was at least extremely embarrassed. Anyhow, this incident shows how anything can happen even when restrictions have been put in place, either legal or not.

As I understand it, it was an off-duty LEO that had a loaded gun in a bag. When he reached to get it, it discharged into the floor. At least that's the way I heard it went down.

I do understand the logic of no loaded guns, concealed or not, at gun shows. When you're handling a lot of guns, it is more likely to forget which one's are hot and which one's aren't.

I know a lot of people say no one would ever try to shoot up a gun show, but I think this is bogus. There are plenty of people that want to go down in a blaze of glory and where better than taking on 1000 gun nuts. And a gun show is a great place to quickly steal and load a weapon.

Myself, I'd probably unload my gun, but still carry with a loaded magazine in my pocket.
Does anyone know what the full policy is? Specifically, is it intended to apply to concealed weapons which the carrier does not intend to draw except in self-defense? Obviously, if it's concealed well, it's easy enough to ignore the policy. I'm just curious what they would say about it if they did notice.
Yes Jeff, it is the hunting expo I was talking about. If they want you to clear it and have a place to do it I guess it is OK, I just didn't want to walk in and have to turn arround and go all the way back to the car to lock it up. If I knew ahead of time I would just leave it in the car but would rather carry.

I will try to contact them but was wondering if anyone here knew for sure.

Thanks

Why would you be handling your concealed self-defense piece?

I think a policy that requires you to leave the gun in the holster (concealed or not) unless it's been cleared makes more sense. I know insurance companies don't think that way, though.
I just got an email from Don Peay, I asked if there were any restrictions on CFP holders, his reply was "not that I know of".

So I should be good to go. :)
At the gun show, my sidearm has a plastic tie that makes it unoperable and safe. So there's no chance of an ND, and it satisfies the rules of the venue while I'm there.

But, I have a knife to cut the tie, I have a loaded magazine on my belt. Within seconds the gun could be totally functioning. I don't feel disarmed.
Yeah, UtahRSO, I was at the gun show and had no probs with that. I was just asking the question to see if it would be the same at the EXPO or different. Sounds like it will be different with no checking or clearing.
