WEST VALLEY CITY â€" A West Valley man says he was tied up and guns were stolen out of his house during a home invasion robbery early Thursday.
The man told police he was watching television about 1:30 a.m. at his house near 3400 West and 2600 South when two teenage girls knocked on the door and asked if they could use his bathroom, said West Valley police Capt. Tom McLachlan.
While one girl was in the bathroom, the other went back to the front door and let two men inside. One of the men put the homeowner in a headlock while the other told them, "You've got something we want," McLachlan said.
The intruders then located the man's gun safe and key, took an SKS rifle and 9 mm handgun out of it, tied the man up and left. The man said he was able to free himself and go to his neighbor's house to call 911.
McLachlan said the man told investigators had never seen the men or teenage girls before.

Why in the world would he let strangers in to use the bathroom at 1:30 in the morning? Apparently, they were acting on information gotten from someone who knew he had guns. That is, assuming that the story is an accurate telling of what happened.

I'm sorry to hear about this. If I'm not mistaken, statistically he'll never see his guns again. Regardless, I hope the're recovered.

Call me paranoid, but if anybody comes knocking on the door at 1:30am, I have a pistol in hand. An intercom goes a long ways, too.

I wonder how they knew what he had.
I'd like to know so I can avoid giving off the same info!

That's easy. Don't talk about what guns you have and where and how you store them with people you don't know and trust, especially Criminals.

No stranger is going to be coming into my house to use my bathroom, especially at 1:30 in the morning. Duh.

How many of us actually continue to carry while at home? In our pajamas?

I do. This is why. You never know when a home invasion just might happen in your house. Do I really expect it to happen in my house? No. But it is possible, so I stay prepared.
