I'm new to Concealed Carry, and handguns in general. In fact, I just made my first firearm purchase, a Ruger 10/.22 that I should have been enjoying 20 years ago. All the same, something in me became interested in guns recently. I am a professional full-time photographer, and I think much of the motivation was that I wanted something ELSE to do to take my mind off of my day in and day out. I love my job, but I am already seeing the benefit of getting out and doing something unrelated to my everyday stuff.

I just recently received my hunter's ed card, and just completed course training for my CCP. I hope to be a handgun owner soon, though I'm not in a tremendous hurry at this point. My priorities are to educate myself about safe firearm handling and use, to make my vote count in the political sense, to learn a lot about firearms, and to have fun. Of course, that means buying guns for myself along the way, but I'm happy to learn at the turtles pace (though it's not really typical for me).

I'm happy to be here and I have already learned a lot from the handful of posts I've read.

Thanks!

Welcome to our forum! From your website (and inferring from another post you made), it looks like you live in California, right? Santa Barbara?
Are you going for a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP)? Are you trying to get a California permit? How hard is that where you live?

When I decided to get a handgun, I took the NRA Basic Pistol Course so that I would have a good foundation on which to safely start my hobby. That quickly led to my getting a CFP and starting to carry. That NRA Basic Pistol Course proved very valuable. I learned a lot. I highly recommend the same thing to you. Find a good NRA instructor who teaches that class.

Thanks for introducing yourself. This is a great place with lots of knowledgeable people, so stick around and post often...

I actually live in Utah County now, though I was in CA for 3 years. Sorry I wasn't more clear. I previously lived in Cache Valley for the majority of my life. I only now realize (now that I'm in UT) how challenging this new hobby would have been to pursue had I undertaken it while living in California. I'm thankful I live in Utah, a state with some of the most open gun laws, as well as some of the best instruction (i.e. CCP).

Welcome. You do nice work (pics). I expecailly liked the Teflon laundry ad. LOL. Post often and have fun here. Many of us understand the hobby to take you mind off the day to day grind. Guns do that. There is a ton to learn about them and they make a great hobby.

Welcome. I am a former Cache Valley resident living in Utah County as well. Welcome to the forum! You'll find a lot of great people here.
Cool. Where in Cache did you call home? My family lived in North Logan, but my wife and I lived in Logan.

Thanks, PW. I like the fact that there is a ton to learn about shooting. I agree that it's a great hobby, and it's really helped me take my mind off of work, when I feel I need a little break.
