You read about every time where stuff happens while OC-ing, but you almost never hear about when nothing happens (shy first times). I have OC-ed Hundreds if not thousands of times and never received more than the occasional odd glance 99% of the time (even with a full sized black pistol on a white shirt). There are people like TJ (UTOC-44-45) with his cowboy outfit and SGTJensen with his thigh holster and airport trips that have plenty of stories to share because the have chosen to move outside of the norm (assuming doing anything while OC-ing can be called normal) but to just go about your daily routine only with a gun showing on your hip really isn't a big thing. Most people won't see anything going on more than 5 feet in front of them, and with all the things we carry on our belts these days a gun doesn't even stand out in most cases.

+1 Its amazing to me how much of the time people don't notice an openly carried gun. I do think tac holsters and cowboy rigs do increase your chances of people noticing. I agree that most of the time no one notices or cares. Unfortunately those times when people do care it usually ends up with a talk to LEO that can frustrating. I think those get mentioned more mearly because people want to vent. I can't blame them, its difficult when you get treated like your breaking the law when your not. But, its very true that most of the time, its not going to be an issue whatsoever.

I don't wear the "Cowboy" rig as often anymore. I just carry a S&W 4006 (.40) in a shoulder holster along with my Kimber (.45) in a Serpa Right Strong Side :crown:

"and with all the things we carry on our belts these days a gun doesn't even stand out in most cases"

My kimber looks very much like a PDA = Personal Defense Apparatus :lolbang:

HAHA there is certainly nothing wrong with a tac holster or cowboy rig. I've also been known to wear both. I just know from experience that they are more noticeable to the public. Actually tonight I carried my SAA in a doc holliday shoulder holster. I was going to the indiana jones showing and my bullwhip was already filling up the hip space where I normally put my thigh rig. Unfortunately it was raining fairly hard so I had to cover up my jacket to keep the precious gun dry. But the bullwhip got some reactions. Atleast I got to open carry something tonight. Good Luck on your open carry ventures. Let us know how that goes.

I definitely agree with this based on my experiences. OC'ing I've only noticed one couple in a restaurant that noticed my gun and whispered to each other and kept their eyes on me. Other than that, nobody seems to ever notice. In fact, going into WalMart (don't you have to when you OC? :lol3: ) with my wife, we ran into another couple who are good friends of ours. We haven't ever talked guns with them, and I don't know how they feel about them. I was like "Oh crap! I hope it's not a big deal." They didn't say a thing, and haven't since... and I don't think they ever noticed.

OPEN CARRY REPORT
So, after I went shooting today to try out my new SA-XD40 came home and made dinner for the wife. BUT we out of milk and nothing to drink with dinner. So I still had my gun strapped to my hip from shooting and decided, "Hey, I'll go get some milk and drinks." So off I went to the Conoco gas station down the street. I went in and just went to get some drinks and milk and went to the counter. The guy did his normal stuff, "Is that all for you?" "Yes," I said as I took out my credit card. "Credit or debit?" "Credit." I got the receipt and looked at it and had like "Vehicle ID/License Number." The guy said, "Oh, sorry." I signed, saying, "What you charge me for alcohol? Whole background check. BCI just did that too me." They laughed. The girl behind the counter seemed to be revealed that I said that. She didn't even make eye contact with me. I thanked them and left. They said something behind me and I'm sure it was about my gun on my right hip, but nothing more. So yeah, my first OC experience. Not bad, not bad. Next, Wal-Mart. :D

I must applaud those who have made the decision to open carry!

Sometimes I am hesitant to post subjects related to open carry on UCC, as it is a concealed carry forum, but everyone here seem to be very accepting of it. With that being said, even I do sometimes conceal!

You all are so supportive of our rights, and this shows at our monthly events. I have noticed that recently most of our open carriers at the meetings, have been members of this site. I mention this because I recently read over on OCDO about a conceal carry site in Kalifornia that threatens its members when they even bring up the subject of open carry. :nilly:

Great job everybody!

Why do I post here more often than OCDO? Three reasons:
1. This new software is so much easier on the eyes, seriously, OCDO needs a makeover.
2. This site seems to be updated much more frequently and has more posts.
3. This site is more specific to Utah, which I like. I like meeting real people from the forum.
