So I was thinking it would be fun if we can set up a time that we can all meet up and have a BBQ and friendly shoot. This board is an awesome place for people with like insterests to meet and become friends.

Maybe we can do the BBQ at a park or some other location then go to a range or if someone has some pull to be able to use a range to hold this type of event.

Let me know what you all think.

Everyone...

For a summer BBQ and some range fun
we could meet at the Hendrickson Range.

As for starting a fire, there is a patio in
the back where we could put some of our
outdoor cooking gear.

Hendrickson Range (PMAA Police Range)
I-80 Exit 134 up Parley's Canyon
$75 all day
Indoor toilets for both men and women

Hope we get this off the ground. It would be
fun to learn from each other at this event.

Take care,
Self-Defense

This would be lots of fun. I'd definitely be interested. My current work schedule is very difficult to plan with considering I work every weekend, and trying to get weekends off is like trying to pull an elephants teeth. but with enough notice, I would definitely swing it. I'm in.

Is this idea still getting kicked around? It sounds like a good idea to me.

I don't know much about ranges and such north of Springville though. In fact I spend very little time at ranges because i'm a cheap old coot who would rather spend the money on more ammo. Usually I just drive about a mile from home to the mouth of Santaquin canyon to shoot, or take the guns along when we go out around Eureka or the west desert while rockhounding for jewelry material.

Again, the BBQ sounds like a good idea. It would be nice to meet other shooters from around here and make some new freinds. It's also fun to shoot with a group because you usually get a chance to shoot a variety of guns that you've never tried before. So count me in if this thing materializes. 8)

count me in.
By the by, perhaps we could plan it around a machine gun fund raiser I'll be having after I make it through a primary election 1 week from today. I am a candidate for Cottonwood Heights City Council.
I would of course take donations of any amount before then.
My platform is: "I will rule this city with an Iron Fist!" This is just being tested with some focus groups and seems to do well.

I will start making some calls on Monday and see if I can't get something scheduled in the next month or so.

If anyone has any ideas of people/places I should contact please let me know.

Thomas:

Has anything more taken place concerning putting together a BBQ/shoot? If you’ve not made arrangements yet, I’d suggest you consider the Hendricksen Range in Parleys Canyon as Self-Defense suggested. I’ve talked with most of the Rangemasters at the various ranges along the Wasatch Front over the past few years when trying to set up IDPA shooting events, and Alan Thompson is probably the easiest to work with.

I also think Hendricksen Range’s location and facilities would work well for this. It’s cooler than in the valley and we could set up the BBQ in the shade under the roof of the covered firing line on the 25-yard range. That would probably work better than using the patio, as there’s no shade there.

We’d have to check with Alan to see when the range is available for reservation. We (Bob Carr and I) have it reserved for the first Saturday of each month for IDPA matches and Polite Society events. I know the IPSC guys and cowboys use this range as well as the bulls-eye pistol shooters. So, we’d have to work around those schedules in order to reserve the range. We’d also probably need to figure on about a month lead time in order to get on the schedule.

If we do have a BBQ there, I’d be willing to set up some IDPA stages we could shoot, just for fun. As these would be set up, and have firing points downrange of the covered firing line. It would leave the firing line free for setting up the cooking and serving facilities.

Over.
Neil
