PAGEDALE, Mo. --Authorities say that one man who planned to rob a pizza deliveryman is dead after being gunned down in apparent self-defense, and a second would-be robber faces charges that include murder.

The shooting happened Thursday night in the St. Louis suburb Pagedale. Police say Rodney Reese and Brian Smith called in a pizza order. When the deliveryman brought the pizza, Reese and Smith allegedly robbed him at gunpoint.

Fearing for his safety, the pizza man fired his own gun. Smith was struck and died at the scene. Reese ran away with the pizzas and soda, along with the victim's wallet.

On Saturday, prosecutors charged Reese with second-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

Yay, somebody give this man a medal
Add to that that; a gold watch, a fishing pole and a few weeks off to relax after the ordeal!
On the serious side, This seems to be a more common occurrence of late. It is unfortunate that these employees must be prepared constantly to defend themselves from criminal elements. This is not to say that there aren't more
dangerous jobs out there because there are. It just seems that we hear more of this happening all the time. This is one of the reasons I would like to see my wife get a better less dangerous job than a convenience store clerk, but we are working on that.
Seems to me that Pizza Delivery Driver is a hazardous occupation.
This one made the decision to go home each night alive. Good for him!

You're right. According to this article on CNN.com, pizza drivers are in the category of #5 most dangerous job in the country. And not just from traffic, either. "...nearly a quarter of their deaths came from robberies and assaults."

The article was published in 2003.

I found that article through "A Pizza Delivery Driver's View of Gun Control," found here.
I was shocked it ranked that high.
WOW, Maybe there is a training opportunity there.... LOL Sorry, always thinking business..... I'll go back to my box now.
Wow, T-Man, Thanks for sharing that! That was powerful.
