I really try to give most TV and movies somewhat of the benefit of the doubt on gun things because they are just for entertainment but this episode was cringe worthy for me. There is a scene where time traveling FBI agent McClarren is teaching his wife to shoot. Her grip is just frightening. Obviously no consultants on this show when it comes to how to use gun.

I do like the show overall but that scene made me want to smack the guy and show her how to do it right.

Is that the scene where she has her thumb behind the slide?

Yes the only reason it didn't get her is she was holding it waaaay down low on the grip.

I haven't watched the scene, so I may be way off base here, but Jerry Miculek talks about having your thumb behind the slide in a YouTube video. He says you can do it, but you gotta be careful and you need to train a lot. So, if the lady's thumb was low enough, the grip may not be totally nuts. However, probably not a good grip for a first timer no matter what.

If you think that was cringe worthy, you should have seen my sis-in-law shoot a 44 Mag revolver. It was a Super Blackhawk, and she was shooting a cylinder full, decided to change her grip to something more comfortable and stable in the midst of firing..., she took her off-hand and grabbed the cylinder at the front of the cylinder. We didn't notice, because we were looking at where she was shooting. Let's just say that wearing Isotoner gloves saved a hand that day. The gloves had to be thrown away afterwards.

Go to ~22:20 to hear him talk about the thumb behind the slide.

I myself cringe when these TV shows and movies show someone with their finger on the trigger.

Rule #1 of firearms handling -- never point the weapon at anyone or anything you don't intend to kill.

Rule #2 -- keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
