I went and picked up my new Compact 4" XD today. Thanks to the input from this board I went ahead and got the bi-tone/stainless slide model. I finally decided that it is easier to get new sights installed then get a new gun (especially considering the presidential candidates).

Gratuitous gun porn follows...

Which cartridge did you get?
.45 ACP - it is a big upgrade from my current 9mm. From 124 gr to 230 gr - I haven't picked out a carry round yet.

I didn't make it out this evening to shoot it, but I can't wait for the weekend to give it a try! The XD holster isn't all that great, but after getting some shooting time I may do some OC'ing while I wait for my Minotar to come. No buyers remorse yet and hopefully I won't have any unless the live fire turns up something unpleasant (I've shot someone else's XD service and liked it so as long as there are no malfunctions I'm sure it will be great).

OK, now I am really jealous.

Is that really a XD45 Compact 4" in Bi-Tone?

Springfield told me they wouldn't be available until summer sometime. That was close to 2 months ago they told me that. Now I need to get one and sell my all black.

Yep Compact 4" in Bi-tone. I don't have a Springfield dealer (according to Springfield) in my area, but I checked with a local dealer and he said he orders them all the time. His suppliers websites are Zanders Sporting Goods and Sports South both of which show the bi-tone in stock.

I noticed that the gun has very oily and probably should be cleaned to remove all of the excess. Thanks for the heads up - I'll clean it tonight.

As long as you are under our persuasive powers ( :lol2: ), the Hornady TAP-FPD ammo that is loaded with either the 200 or 230 grain XTP bullet and is rated as +P is the most accurate ammo I have ever shot out of my XD45 Compact. And it is smooooooooooth.

Very nice pics!!

I finally got to shoot the XD today - what an awesome gun!! The accuracy is excellent and the recoil is very manageable. No Hornady TAP rounds were to be found in my area, but I did find some Hornady Custom 230 gr JHP/XHT +P. Aside from the brass case instead of the nickel I cannot see much difference in the ballistics info.

From what I can tell, the XD should hold up to +P ammo when used sparingly. Does anybody have info about +P being bad or not recommended for the XD?

I definitely don't like the belt holster that comes with the gun; it is a pain to thread on to a belt and seems to flop around too much. My local shop does have an XD Gear paddle holster that I have been thinking about getting to use in conjunction with my IWB Minotar (which is still in production  ). The Fobus that I have for my Taurus is great for slipping on and off for quick trips and what not. Does anybody have experience with the XD Gear brand paddle holster?

Thanks again for the info!

I use Magtech 230 gr +P JHP in my XD45. No problems shooting +P. As for the XD paddle holster, I have never used it. If you are looking for an OWB paddle holster I would recommend the Black Hawk Serpa. Very comfortable and the gun doesn't flop around when holstered.

Nice gun porn, guys. :D Those XD's are nice looking guns. My wife and I rented one one time and I think I'm going to add it to my wish list. (But, I'm still a big Glock fan.)
