Like the title says, I'm a new gun-owner (sort of)... as a kid I grew up in the country with the usual BB/pellet guns and I had an old shot-gun that I used on a few hunting occasions. I grew up around weapons enough to know the importance of safety and to view them as useful tools not to be feared (in and of themselves) but respected. During my stint in the U.S. Navy I got plenty of opportunities to handle small arms (and crew-served arms, of course) but only THEIR arms and only according to THEIR policies (of course).

I have recently been discharged and returned to Utah. I decided it's about time I practice my 2nd-Amendment rights since no one is going to practice them for me as well as equalize the playing field out there since the frequency of "bad guys" getting out of hand sometimes seems like it's increasing.

Anyways, so the other day I purchased an SA-XD9sub from Doug's... I've long felt like a 9 is all I really need and selected this particular gun after having shot the Berretta lots as well as some of the other 9's on a couple of occassions. The posts on this board was very instrumental in helping me feel confident about choosing this gun since I actually felt like I liked it best of the 1/2-dozen 9's I've shot.

I also bought the gun for my wife, who I've been teaching to shoot for almost 2 years now (not that I'm a pro or anything... hardly, but I know the basics).

We both are scheduled to take the CC course later this month. I plan on carrying after I get my permit.

Welcome to the Forum.

The XD is a good gun, my son-in-law recently bought one in .45 ACP.

Welcome back to the 2nd line of defense, and thank you for the service you have rendered to our country.

Welcome and I love that more women are getting involved and obtaining the training and their permits. I have to say that I'm surproised to see how many women are in our classes. WE are even doing a WOMENS ONLY class as we have had several ask for it. I guess there is some out there that are a bit intimidated by their husbands when they are around. Thats one thing that my ex-wife tells me....LOL Congrats and be safe.
