I think it is time to move the site over to a new hosting company. Someone here suggested WestHost and after looking into their services I think they would be a good choice.

The easiest way to do this would be to pay a year up front. The cost is $10.00 per month if you pay for a full year up front. I would normally just pay it myself but I currently have a shortage of funds.

So here is where we ask for your support. Below is a link to a donate page that hooks to a paypal account. If we can get a total of $120 + $5 to cover the paypal fees worth of donations I can just pay the fee from that account.

I will update this post each time a donation is made so that we do not end up with more than we need. I think this will resolve the latency and mail issues we have been seeing.

Thank you very much for the support.

THANK YOU

Sincerely,

I wish paypal worked with Windows mobile. Ah well, I'll chip in as soon as I have access to a real PC. The better host sounds like a great move!

C'mon folks, if each of the 63 of us who used the board yesterday sends him 2 bucks we could have this covered in a jiffy for less than we would each spend for a Monster coffee... Not bad considering the years this board has been running without asking for support or us being bombarded with ads.

Well, one month covered . . . thanks for your efforts! I wonder if they have a two or three year plan we could cover?
They do have a 24 month plan however, there is no additional discount.

If you get more than your goal, feel free to use my donation in any way you see fit to benefit UCC.COM.

I know taking care of this site can be a bit of trouble.

It is kinda bittersweet that with the death of "Packing . org" this site was given a shot in the arm and has grown to the point where it is now. Not the only reason of course, but I believe a major factor.

Now we all need to stay civil, in a way that packing couldn't at the end!

I have now payed for the first year of hosting. They said the account will be set up within 24 hours. As soon as I get confirmation of the setup we will begin the process of transitioning the board to the new servers.

In order to move the site we will have to shut the board off at some preset time. This will stop people from making posts on the old board if their dns entries are out of date.

We will probably make the swith during the late evening hours sometime the beginning of this week. If by the next morning you are still seeing the board that has been turned off please open the windows command prompt and type in the following command:

ipconfig /flushdns

This will force the computer to go out and query the dns servers for information as apposed to using cached data on your computer. If there are any other questions or problems you can contact me at:

thomas "at" thomasknight "dot" net

Thanks,

Whoa......got here too late.

Hey, question. Should we still continue to contribute to this account so that you can pay for upcoming years as well?

The hosting company has a two-year plan for $240 . . . we are still a little shy on that . . . if you had a few extra bucks maybe we could get paid ahead a bit and take advantage of their special rate.

. . . just an idea.
I don't know what Thomas says on this, but I like the idea of getting enough for the two years worth.

I am new here so did not see the switch to the new host take place, or hasn't it happened yet?

One of the other sites I frequent has an area where you can post items for sale and the proceeds go to the site. The seller handles shipping the item as soon as the site owner has received the funds for the item.

I have some odds and ends of empty brass that have been picked up at the range. They are calibers that I don't use and would be willing to donate. Maybe others have a holster or other accessories they could chip in.
