I found an interesting piece of legislation concerning firearms pending in the Utah Legislature (under Weapons). I haven't seen any mention of it here, but I may have missed it. Anyone else looked at it?

I read the legislation being proposed & find that it is good. I commented on it @ packing.org too. Representative Madsen is more or less proposing a bill to allow legal carry of whatever weapon a individual desires, while within their vehicle, or on their property. It has been several days since I read it, but I believe this is the gist of it. I believe it will be a good bill & am happy to lend my support to any bill which protects our constitutionally guaranteed right to self defense, regardless of where we may be, or what we may be driving. Our right to carry for personal protection, protection of family, others or of our own property should never be a debatable issue, and this bill would be in support of this.
The only real opposition to this bill is by a group of police chiefs. But lets face it, they do not live in reality & have no desire to see you or I, or anyone else for that matter, running around with the ability to defend ourselves. They want us to call 911 and wait until they can come to our rescue, well after the situation is over. Well I am sorry, but that system just won't work for me, or any other logical, constitutionally minded individual.
I pray this bill passes, it will be a good & healthy bill which upholds our constitution, what more could we ask for!

The only gun-related bill that I'm aware of in this session (2006) is

S.B. 24 Weapons Amendments -- Madsen, M.

Having read through the bill, it looks like an excellent change. This allows car carry without a CFP, providing that the person concealing a firearm is lawfully in possession of the vehicle or has permission from the person who is lawfully in possession of the vehicle.

This would appear to go a long way towards making Utah a state with a Peaceable Journey Law, which we don't currently have:

Peaceable Journey Law Summary:

A section on each states page. This section list the state laws concerning traveling through the state with a loaded firearm on you or in the vehicle without a permit. Some states allow for traveling through their state and keeping the firearm on you if you don't stop (Rhode Island) or you can keep a loaded firearm in the glove box or console without a permit (Florida)

I also really hope this goes through. Anyone remember how badly it was defeated last session?
