Hello everyone.

I’ve been involved with shooting and firearms for a little over fifty years (yes, I’m that old) and help run the Utah Polite Society.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Utah Polite Society, we hold monthly shoots (on the first Saturday of each month) at Hendricksen Range in Parleys Canyon east of Salt Lake. Our shoots are focused on helping folks acquire the defensive handgun skills they typically don’t learn as part of a concealed carry class.

Although several in our group have been practicing our defensive handgun skills for some time and many of us have attended one or more of the nationally known schools, we are very interested in providing a friendly environment that welcomes those new to the development of these kinds of skills.

If you are new to this, or just want to brush up on skills you already have, this is a good place to practice skills that you can’t practice in a traditional range environment. We always run a short orientation for those shooting with us for the first time, and when there’s enough interest, we run a three-hour class in defensive shooting basics as part of our monthly events.

Our events typically consist of one or two exercises that let you practice a specific defensive shooting skill or set of related skills, and one or two exercises that allow you to apply these skills in simulated defensive shooting situations.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve been working to bring in nationally known trainers on an annual basis. Last year we brought in Gabe Suarez to teach his Close Range Gunfighting and Interactive Gunfighting classes. This year we’re scheduling a defensive pistol class to be taught at Hendricksen Range by Gunsite Academy. We should be posting info about the Gunsite class on our web page in the next week or so.

Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here.

Uh, concerning the name, are you a Red Green Fan? :)
And I just can't picture any of them, especially Harold, with a gun.

Thanks for the info on the society. I have been interested for quite a while now, I had looked at the web page, but the 2008 calendar wasn't available. Good to hear you are still around and kicking. I look forward to attending some events.

Welcome to the forum and post often!

To answer your question as to whether I’m a Red Green fan, kinda sorta.

Concerning your observation that you can’t picture any of them with a gun, just goes to show that you may never really know who’s packing and who isn’t.

I know a lot of folks who you wouldn’t want to have on the opposing side of any gunfight you happen to be in. More than a few of them don’t look like someone you’d expect to be carrying a gun, let alone someone you’d expect to be quite competent in using it as a defensive tool. Some even look like someone’s pudgy, white-hared, old grandpa.
