"No Firearms" Signs

I'm sure this has already been discussed but this is my thinking about the random "No Firearms" signs you see at private businesses.

Unless they are going to have a metal detector and search everyone, doesn't having a sign like that pretty much say "Hey bad guy! We've got a whole building of law abiding citizens here who are unarmed!"

Wouldn't these signs pose a greater risk than just allowing law abiding citizens to carry their firearms? It's not like a BG has ever seen a sign outside of a business he was going to rob and say, "Oh I better not rob that place with my gun because the pimply teenage shift manager might yell at me." This just doesn't make sense.

If I were a business owner (Especially a convenience store owner) I'd give my staff an extra buck or two an hour if they had a CFP, because not only could I avoid having a dead clerk on my hands but chances are I might have a few less dollars stolen out of the register. Any one want to chime in?

I just shows ignorance, or fear, on the part of the store owner. I have heard that they feel that they might get sued if they didn't have a sign and someone was injured by a customer in their store - sort of like saying they ALLOW firearms in their store and it CAUSED someone to get hurt - so the store would be liable. But, for some reason this doesn't work the other way around, you go in disarmed (respecting the policy) and a criminal comes in, robs the place and shoots a bunch of people. Now instead of the business getting sued for not allowing you to carry/defend yourself, it's just a huge TRAGEDY that couldn't have been avoided and is a real SHAME. It's stupid, but it's how a lot of uninformed people (or people who don't think about this as we do) feel on the subject. There are so many people out there who out of inexperience and ignorance harbor great FEAR of firearms and those who carry them (except officials like the police). These are the people that think you're nuts or irresponsible if you have a gun (or multiple guns) in your house and are the same people that call 911 when they see you buying groceries with a gun on your hip. Unfortunately, these very people often have NO desire to understand or learn about guns and thus never overcome this irrational fear. Sad... very sad indeed. :(

Sure it does. See this instructional video on how gun-free zones stop crime:

I worked a couple of liquor stores here that were robbed several times over the course of a few months. There's no cc permits issued to citizens here in Hawaii. Contrary to the law, keep in mind the chief "may" issue, meaning that it doesn't happen. In any case, business owners are allowed to have their personal firearms on premesis and can allow employees to carry (cc or open) at their establishments. After getting fed up getting robbed, the store owners hired me to work the evening shift and paid me a few dollars extra for the hassle of having to transport my firearm and ammo to work. The had me OC while working, and I also had my 2 G27 pistols concealed. Needless to say, the three weeks I worked there, they weren't robbed, the drunk guys left when the first time they were asked, and there was very little merchandise being shoplifted (the store lost an average of $100 each week to shoplifters, in the weeks I worked, they lost only abot $20 each week). Funny thing is that sales went up, losses went down and the place became a lot more peaceful. (Similar situation for both stores). I work for them two weeks out of the year when the owners go on vacation. Since my "cleaning up" the place, the owners now cc while working, and are frequent visitors to the local shooting range.

It's funny how there's all of these "video cameras in use" signs all over the place and folks still steal stuff in plain view of the camera. I think the "No Firearms" signs are just as effective.

I hope you caught Shawn's sarcasm, don't know how you'd miss it if you watched the clip :lolbang:
Ha HA!! That video was hillarious! I'm glad you posted it up there. Also that's a great story about the Liquor store!
It doenst make sense, but fear causes people to do dumb things
No gun signs are about as big a joke as Obama.

Maybe I have some sort of a medical condition but here's how I read the signs:

"all the people inside this building are defensless"

Thats when I start to hear the strange voices of the sheeple inside calling to me:

"please come in here. If something happens, you can help us. "

I just cant help myself but go inside. Honestly, places with signs are some of my favorite places to carry, CC or OC!
Check the sign to see if there is a white line around the outside edge. That means it's optional, just like any stop signs in the same fashion. ; )

That would explain A LOT here in utah
One of my current employers doesn't allow firearms even with a CFP and has it posted. they used to be pro-carry and I was told that the change came with a change in insurance coverage. I don't know that I believe it but I know for a fact that some of the execs conceal carry. I'm in a special situation at work and have written permission to carry in each building. I'm just curious if anyone has ever heard of any insurance coverage that would have a discount if they didn't allow CFP or some such concept.
That video is funny. The sad part is that there are a lot of ignorant people that believe those signs work that way.

Zing! And they do about as much good (maybe more)! Senator Hopenchange, to the rescue! We all know that a gun ban only disarms those that obey the ban, not those who are going to get a gun one way or another. Gun ban = disarming the good guys. As long as there are gun bans in existence, good, law-abiding citizens will be in harm's way.

Okay, I know I already attached this pic to another thread, but it is just so fitting!

Man I love it.

:agree: That is great.
Whenever I see "No Guns" I assume it means illegal guns. I have the right to carry, I have my permit, and my weapon is concealed...who's the wiser? The only places I know of that I can't and don't go with my gun are: The courthouse, the post office, fed owned property, and church (this one really gets to me! :disgusted: ).
