OBAMA SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR INSULTING MILLIONS OF ARMED CITIZENS, SAYS CCRKBA

BELLEVUE, WA â€" Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday insulted millions of legally-armed American citizens when he told a Pennsylvania newspaper that concealed carry poses a threat to innocent people, and he should immediately apologize for that remark, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Senator Obama, quoted by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, admitted, “I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.”

“American citizens have been responsibly carrying concealed handguns for years in 48 states,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, co-author of America Fights Back: Armed Self-Defense in a Violent Age, published by Merril Press. “These citizens go through background checks, and in some states complete required training courses. Statistically, these armed citizens are far less likely to ever be involved in a crime than average citizens. They have stopped crimes. They have sometimes aided police officers.

“Senator Obama,” he continued, “should not confuse legally-armed, law-abiding Americans with inner-city thugs, gang-bangers and other criminals who carry guns illegally. Thanks to a revealing 1996 questionnaire bearing Mr. Obama’s handwriting from his days as a candidate for the Illinois Senate, it’s clear he has the good guys confused with the bad guys.”

That controversial questionnaire, which Obama originally claimed he never saw, contained answers to questions that indicates he opposes capital punishment and criminal prosecution of juveniles as adults, is against mandatory sentencing and supports “alternative sentencing.” He supported a ban on handguns and semiautomatic sport-utility rifles, and mandatory waiting periods before Americans could exercise their constitutional right to own a firearm.

“Barack Obama ignorantly believes that legally-armed Americans are as reckless and irresponsible as the criminals with whom his political sympathies evidently lay,” Gottlieb said. “He has been insisting for months that he supports the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, but here he is now campaigning in Pennsylvania, stating essentially that he would prefer Americans not exercise that right.

“Legally-armed citizens are also voters, Mr. Obama,” Gottlieb stated, “and you have outrageously insulted every one of them. You owe these good citizens an apology.”

Here is the text of the note I just sent him. You are welcome to copy it in any way you want. Please lets post this information everywhere we can. We need to send a message to Senator Obama.

I am writing to express my concern regarding your comments about citizens legally carrying concealed weapons. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review quoted you as stating, “I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.” I find this ignorant and offensive. As a law abiding citizen that carries a concealed weapon every day, I can state that the only person that will ever be shot with my firearm is a criminal that attempts to prey on myself or my family. Prohibiting civilians from being able to carry concealed firearms prevents them from the God-given right to defend their lifes from criminals that would prey on us. For years now, violent crime has decreased as a result of citizens carrying concealed firearms. Instances of shooting or accidents coming from citizens such as myself carrying a concealed firearm are RARE! It is statistically dramatically higher for a criminal to be shot by a concealed firearm permit holder, than for what you call “innocent people” to be shot by a legal concealed firearm permit holder. The courts have long ago decreed that law enforcement has no legal obligation to protect me or my family individually. Eliminating my right to carry a concealed firearm also eliminates my right to defend myself. This is outrageous and morally wrong. The places in the country that have the highest crime rate (ie. CHICAGO, Washington D.C.) have the strictest gun control laws in the nation. These gun control laws have only served to disarm the people that criminals prey on, thus giving criminals easier targets. I would ask you to rethink your position on citizens such as myself carrying concealed weapons and acknowledge us for the crime deterent that we serve as. Eliminating the right of law abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms will only make citizens easier targets for criminals. It will only increase crime.

Seriously. To what purpose? Do you believe that emails and comments will permanantly change his long-held and fundamental beliefs about firearms in civilian hands? I think, at most, he would temper his campaign rhetoric while maintaining his beliefs. Personally, I'd prefer that he just keep digging a deeper hole.

You make a valid point, however I disagree with doing nothing. I think we let him know what we think.

Your most likely right, but I sent one anyway, to let the idiot know how I feel about his comments.

I'm disappointed that he mentioned he'd put Al Gore in a cabinet position when he gets in the White House. He didn't say that out-right, but close enough for me to now be really pissed that his campaign is going strong.

Below is my letter. I appreciate the majority of it written by PW:

Dear Senator Obama -

I am writing to express my concern regarding your comments about citizens legally carrying concealed weapons. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review quoted you as stating, “I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.”

I find your statement ignorant and offensive. As a law abiding citizen that carries CCW permit, I can state that the only person that will ever be shot with my firearm is a criminal that attempts to prey on myself or my family. Prohibiting civilians from being able to carry concealed firearms prevents them from the God-given right to defend their lives from criminals that would prey on us.

CHICAGO, Washington D.C., California) have the strictest gun control laws in the nation. These gun control laws have only served to disarm the people that criminals prey on, thus giving criminals easier targets. I would ask you to rethink your position on citizens such as myself carrying concealed weapons and acknowledge us for the crime deterrent that we serve our family and community. Eliminating the right of law abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms will only make citizens easier targets for criminals. It will only increase crime.

In your reconsideration, please remember those citizens at Virgina Tech, Utah's Trolley Square, and Columbine. The United States of America was built on The Right to Bear Arms as we broke free from British tyranny. Please also pay particular attention to our own Supreme Court Justices and their forthcoming decision in the Washington DC vs. Heller case.

Regards and good luck in your campaign -

Here's my letter:

Dear Senator Obama:
As a member of the United States Army and a Concealed Firearm Permit holder, I am writing to express my concern regarding your comments about citizens legally carrying concealed weapons. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review quoted you as stating, “I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.” The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) has said that you owe American gun owners an apology, and I agree.

The First ten Amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, were put in place to protect American citizens from government opression. Guaranteeing the right to free speech, fair trials, and the keeping of arms as a last resort to protect individual freedoms.

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting, Senator. It was written to ensure that law-abiding Americans have the tools to protect themselves from criminals, even if those criminals are members of our own government.

Before I close, I want you to ponder these questions. Do you have a bodyguard? Does that bodyguard (or bodyguards) carry a firearm? If so, then does not the average American deserve the same level of protection? Or do you think your life is somehow more valuable than mine or my family's, that you can have an armed bodyguard (or bodyguards) to protect your life, but I cannot arm myself?

You should seriously consider apologizing to every one of the millions of law-abiding Americans who choose to exercize the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
Feel free to plagiarize. :D
