There's an online poll at HarkTheHerald asking if we approve or disapprove of the proposed bill to allow people to carry a loaded gun in their cars.
I voted yes.
I invite you all to do the same.
If you're wondering why I voted yes, it's because the right to self-defense in one's own home (the Castle Doctrine) should not evaporate when one is in one's own car. A great number of states allow the unlicensed carry of a loaded gun in cars. Just last year, Missouri joined those ranks. At the same time that the Missouri Legislature enacted their shall-issue CCW law, they also made it legal to have the means of self-defense in one's own car. This right is not limited to those with CCW permits.
I don't buy the argument that this will allow unstable or felonious individuals to have guns in cars. Criminals already carry in an illegal manner. Any prohibition to law-abiding citizens from carrying in a car has no effect on criminals.
It's time for Utah, which is generally a pro-gun state, to modernize this part of the law.
