I'll use this thread to organize an open carry luncheon for those that want to attend.

The current ideas are:
1. Have a Utah Gun Law representative speak
2. Have a local police chief speak.

I'd like ideas on a location, food type and date.

The Golden Corral in Layton has been favorable for us.

I'd prefer Saturdays after 5Pm and on Sundays.

However...,I'd suggest to set-up the date and time for when the CHIEF can come and THEN the rest of us will have to adjust. How about that boys and girls ???

You do know that this IS a Open Carry State ?

It's NOT against the Law to OPEN CARRY your Firearm. There is NO law that prevents it. 'Magin that my friend

Which means that you don't HAVE to have a "Permit" to carry your gun, If your 18+ carry it with a loaded magazine but NOT chambered VISIBLY and you are OK :dancing:

We would love to see you and your wife there BOTH OCing (Open Carryin).

For further research look at www.opencarry.org , it will show all the states and forums for EACH state sharing with you Open Carry Experiences but also refer you to Federal,State and Local Laws. There is a SPECIFIC Utah Forum.

Read, Learn and Carry you soon.

Let's make sure that the requirements for open carry are very clear so that there's no mistake.

To carry a firearm without a Concealed Firearm Permit, it must be:Carried in plain view - not concealedUnloaded (See U.C.A. 76-10-502. When weapon deemed loaded)
i.e. No round in the chamber for an autoloader; no round under the hammer or in the next chamber to rotate in for a DA revolver; no round under the hammer for a SA revolverEven if you don't carry, you're welcome to come to any and all UCC events!

One more thing: If you don't have your permit, don't open carry in your car! Wait 'til you arrive to carry.
So if I want to OC without having my CCW yet, how to I get where I am going? Just be sure to legally secure my weapon non-accessible to me while in the vehicle?
Right. In a safe. Also in plain view on the seat will do, I believe. It's just alot easier if you have a CCW.

Alright... I'm going to send an email to Chief Terry Keefe asking when he would be available for this event.
I will ask him to be prepared to discuss his views on open carry in the state of Utah, how his officers are prepared to interact with legal open carriers and if he feels departments in general could use more training in this area, and to answer questions regarding open and concealed carry as a law enforcement official.

I am offering to him that we will take care of his lunch, and he is welcome to bring any other officers with him to discuss the issues.

Anything you guys want to add?

This sounds like a GREAT idea. I would love to come and hear what officers have to say about all this. (Plus, the food sounds good too. :D ) Just say when.

I am still waiting for a reply from Chief Keefe. I will post an update here as soon as I have more information.

Is there anyone else you guys would like to invite?
