I wanted to remind everyone that National Open Carry Weekend is coming up, this July 4th, 5th and 6th.

Everyday hundreds of thousands of law abiding citizens carry handguns for self defense all across America. Most of those arms are concealed. Open Carry Day and Open Carry Weekend seek to bring those people who normally carry concealed out of the shadows and into the light. As responsible firearms owners we understand that firearms do not cause crime, but rather prevent and stop crime. In that light we bring to you the National Open Carry Day and National Open Carry Weekend.

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed." - Thomas Jefferson

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

Just wanted to let you know that Open Carry Weekend has officially begun!

I kicked it off a little early and headed up to Eaglewood Golf Course for the 3rd of July Bountiful Fireworks. Walked past a bunch of Bountiful PD officers and nuthin'. I love Davis County!!!

Great fireworks and a wonderful finale, rivaling most that I have seen (Boston Pops, Stadium of Fire, etc)!

Have a great weekend!

I open carried to my neighborhood BBQ. It was my first time. My husband (MountainManXD) and his friend also OC'd and had several stares and some funny comments that I will let him post.

There was definitely a different feeling when you OC. It wasn't that I was self conscious, it was more of a responsibility. We have lots of foot traffic in front of our place because we live in a busy area of Salt Lake, and I couldn't help wondering what every passerby was thinking AND, could they swipe my gun? I kept checking my back. I'm not sure, as a woman, I'm entirely comfortable with OCing, but it was a neat experience to try for the day!

and BOY you should have tasted the apple pie, now THERE is where comfort is! :D

Well I noticed Dave had posted that it is the OC weekend, so I decided that was a good excuse to OC to our little BBQ get together. Earlier that day I had shaved off my 5 month beard so when I showed up everyone was either surprised by my cleaned up appearance, or my OCed XD40. So as you can see from the pic, I no longer look like a mountain man :lol3: . Anyway I called one of my friends that has been with me when I OCed before, and told him he had to OC because it is OC weekend. His kids were out somewhere, so I ended up inviting him over for some food. After he showed up OCing his .40Glock, we started getting lots of questions from some of the neighbors. One of my neighbor’s moms was visiting from Australia, and she was really interested in what we were doing, due to the fact that guns are almost completely outlawed there. As my neighbor said, "you can't even think about the guns you might have owned in the past." Well we told them about the laws regarding OC and CC, the reasons why we carry, and about the Open Carry movement nationally and here locally (WVC). We were having so much fun, that em decided she could OC her gun too. One experience that is worth mentioning is that there was a seedy looking guy driving by who did a triple take when he noticed my gun. He waited until he was turning onto the next street, before yelling, "Nice gun, loser." It was hard not to laugh. Later I wandered over to Liberty Park to see if I could get a view of some fireworks, when a guy walked by. This time as he did the triple take he started walking into the street. When he saw me smiling, he realized I wasn't threatening, and said, "Now that's a firecracker." The look on his face was priceless. Later as we were finishing up the fireworks another friend, who was riding her bike, stopped by. She stopped to watch the kids doing fireworks. As she was leaving, I asked her what she thought of the gun. :jawdrop: She couldn't believe it. She hadn’t noticed it for the 20 minutes that she had been there. But after talking to her about it she thought it was pretty cool. She asked if you had to be trained to have a gun. I told her that you didn't need to be to OC, but that is was a good idea. I also told her that to get a cfp you need to take a class, and have a background check. I also used the spare tire analogy saying it wouldn't do you much good if you didn't know how to use it. Anyway, I got one of my friends to OC, my wife OCed a little, I talked to some of my neighbors about it, got some good looks :jawdrop: , some funny words  , and educated someone with no knowledge of firearms. And as em said the apple pie was amazing. Family, friends, food, firearms, and fireworks; the fourth couldn't have been any better.
