I took my application to BCI mid November, they informed me that it would take about 90 days to get my permit, which I was ok with since that is what I thought it would take. So much to my surprise I get the permit and a letter in the mail yesterday! On the letter it mentioned that the permit was being issued but I would receive notification if the FBI found anything wrong with my prints or background, luckily that won't happen but it made me wonder if I am good to go to start carrying. Anyone else have that happen? I thought they checked everything before sending the permit.

You are good to go. If something turns up in the FBI check then they would take action to retrieve the permit from you.

Seems kind of silly to me that they give you your permit which makes you legal to carry immediately, THEN they do the background check. I guess they figure that anyone that goes through the hassle of getting the permit is a law abiding citizen.

Carry always.

It's my understanding that they do check your criminal record, but only on the records available to BCI. The FBI check is a bit more expansive, checks your fingerprint to known crime, and would look for issues from other states. So, it's fairly unlikely that the FBI check would show any issues they don't already know about.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Smile and carry your gun where ever you want. (that is legal of course)
