Hello from Utah County! My wife and I both got our CWP a few months ago and we finally got our first guns a couple of weeks ago - she got a Charter .38 special revolver and I got a XD40 SC. We both had discussed carrying before but got serious about it after the Trolley Square and Virginia Tech incidents. Having firearms in our home is a very new concept to the both of us and it's been a big change. Needless to say, I've been surfing the internet a LOT to gather as much information as possible. I figured this would be a great place to join and gain knowledge from others around us.

Now that we finally bought our weapons, we need to figure out a way to carry them (concealed). I didn't think it would be this difficult. I wear a button up shirt and dress slacks 5 days of the week so I need something tuckable. I've narrowed it down to the HighNoon Split Decision and the Crossbreed SuperTuck or QuickClip. Those are the two brands that seem to be mentioned the most amongst all of the gun forums that I have been reading through. Once I have figured out which one I'll be getting (hopefully with all of your help), I am then responsible to find something suitable for my wife. She also wears button up shirts and dress slacks 5 days of the week and very rarely carries a purse. Any ladies on this forum that can provide some suggestions on this aspect would be greatly appreciated.

Anyways, sorry for the long intro. This is the first forum that I have actually written in (since I was required to - hehe).

Welcome to the group. That is an interesting story about you and your wife. Very similar to our story. We got our permits and I had an XD40 and my wife a Charter arms snubbie as well. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the crossbreed holsters. I love my standard IWB. As for your wife, not sure I can help there, My wife doesn't carry that often and when she does, it's in her purse.

WELCOME!

My Supertuck seems to work great. I had problems at first but with help from Apollosmith it now fits much better and I don't have much complaint. I like it quite a bit!

My wife also has her permit but has yet to decide to carry. We are planning on renting a few smaller guns for her to shoot and play with and see what she thinks. Most days at work she wears skirts. She absolutely doesn't want to store it in her purse. I thought maybe someone might make a high-thigh garter-band style holster for a small gun but I haven't looked yet...

Welcome this is a good place to come and learn.

I have been carrying for about 8 years, but it wasn't until after the Trolly Square incident that my wife would go out shooting with me.

It is good to have you here.

Welcome. Trolley Square and VT pushed me over the edge also.
I have been waiting on a high noon IWB tuck for almost 4 months now. I hope it is worth the wait.... Post often and enjoy.

+1 on the Crossbreed SuperTuck. Looks cheap, but holds up well and great for CC.

Open Carry!!! Try a thigh holster for your wife, there are several kinds out there. Just have her PM (personal message) me and I will talk to her.

I really like my SmartCarry holster (smartcarry.com). It seems like a funny place to keep your gun, but it works really well and is surprisingly comfortable. I hardly notice mine, and no one else notices it either.

The downside to the SmartCarry is that it requires two hands to draw your gun. With a little practice, I don't think it's much slower than drawing from an IWB holster, but you need to use your off hand to pull your waistband out away from you body to give your strong hand clear access to the grip. Drawing from a seated position is possible, but not easy, and is considerably slower than other holsters, IMO.

The main advantage, of course, is deep concealment. You could conceal your weapon while wearing nothing but swim trunks.

If you get a SmartCarry for your XD40SC, you might want to try it with your extended magazine. When wearing semi-tight jeans (need to lose some weight and loosen those up) I find that the only part of my XD9SC that prints at all is the sharp edge of the butt. Using the longer mag puts that line in my right pocket area, where it's pretty normal to have various small bulges and lines. The 10-rd mag puts the line to the left of the pocket, so it's more noticeable -- though not very, and it doesn't look at all like a gun. I need to see if there's a way to round off that edge. It's the sharp line that makes it somewhat visible, not the bulge.

Welcome! Thanks for becoming our new friend!

As was stated before, VT and Trolley Square helped me in my permit decision. At those times I already had my permit, but it sure did reaffirm my resolution to carry everywhere and every time.
