I'm the new proud owner of a S&W 1006 10mm pistol. Kinda funny story how I got it. My brother lived in Florida when he was first married and bought it for home protection. He later moved to Sweden where his wife is from and put the pistol in a safe deposit box thinking they would be back. 8 years later he comes to visit and stops in Florida to get the gun and gives it to me since he can't take it back to Sweden with him since he can't afford to get a gun license there and IMO has Stockholm syndrome and is becoming a socialist :crying: . I've been drooling over one of the S&W 10mm guns for years and had no idea he owned one and to have it given to me for free has been a wonderful surprise. I'll post up pics when I pick it up next week.

As for the gun it's in really good condition. He bought it new and has put maybe 200 rounds though it. However there are a few blemishes on the slide and frame that kinda look like rust. And the trigger feels awful to me, long empty pull in single action and a jerky break when it finally goes bang. It also has big adjustable sights that seem to wander a bit. Also, I'm not a fan of the magazine safety disconnect either. Other than those things and the price and unavailability of 10mm ammo I'm pretty happy. Got a new back woods camping gun and a reason to start reloading. I doubt it would become a everyday conceal and carry gun but ya never know.

My family moved from West Valley to Bountiful when I was 13. My parents and some siblings still live there so I go up there about every other weekend. I usually shoot when I'm up there so if you shoot on weekends I'd love to go shooting. I go to the lions club range by the B or just up the mountain depending on my mood and car.

My parents house is right off Davis blvd over by 5th south.

You're a lucky son-of-a-gun. I've wanted a 10 for a long time and it seems now that only Glock and Kimber make anything in 10. But the Kimber's a thousand bucks and I don't want the Glock. Wish they made and XD10.

I am just curious, what does the 10mm offer that the .40 doesnt? I know the 10mm is a higher pressure round, but I am just curious to know if there is a REASON to have one other than "because I can."

I would like to have one for the latter reason, just curious what you all thought?

The 3rd gen S&W's are good overall guns. I had a 5906 and a Novak'd 4506 that was a tack driver. Back then Novak would go through your gun for about $600. This included bead blasting, trigger job, reliability package, and carry package. I ended up selling them both and getting a 745. The 745 is more of a competition gun with an awesome single stage trigger.

There are gunsmiths out there, including Novak, that can put a good trigger on the gun.

Tapehoser- Dan Wesson and Fusion Firearms are making the 10mm again.

The "Hunter" from Fusion's website:

I was told recently that Utah is now allowing the 10mm to be used for deer hunting. 8)

The law states that any firearm with an expanding bullet may be used for deer as long as it generates 500 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. A 10mm loaded with a 150 grain Nosler Partition and 12.7 grains of AA #7 will generate 600 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. That's power I'd even trust in GRIZZLY country!

Forgot the colt delta elite also. I think it cost more than the kimbers though. :(

I am glad to be here and "FIGHT" for the RIGHTS that we have here. The once that they DON'T recognize over there.

Visby on the island of Gotland is where her family is from, their family home is there. It's part of the city wall and dates back to medieval times. Stockholm is where my brother and his wife live. He loves it there, goes fishing in the Baltic all the time and speaks Swedish fluently. He fits in pretty well and has changed a lot to do so. He's kind of abandoned his roots. But every time he comes and visits the first thing he wants to do is get nachos from 7-11 and then go shooting in the west desert. So he's not a total loss.

She was in the states and went to the Sundance film fest. He worked at Deer valley and they met in a bar in Park City. She's not LDS and he's not been to church since he was 15. I've been wanting to go visit them but we went to Paris this year instead. Sweden looks beautiful from the pictures I've seen.

Scenery??? Scenery ??? There was scenery ??? Besides the women ???:lolbang:

Well to bring it back topic

That sure is a nice gun. I like my S&W 4006 alot but yeah, it's NOT the 1911 frame. I wish that was the case

Some of my 10mm loving friends swear by this stuff http://georgia-arms.com/newcannedheat10 ... 500pk.aspx some like this http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalo ... ucts_id=58 I can not recommend double tap ammo.
patriot arms in West Jordan usually stocks 10mm buffalo bore but, that's not "real" 10mm
Yeah I've been on 10mm forums lately and those are the two brands everyone suggests. And the bulk buys look "relatively" cheap.

I really like the thought of this round for back woods carry.

Not 'any' firearm. This doesn't affect the 10mm, but if it is a handgun then in must be at least .24 caliber and fire centerfire cartridges. No energy requirement is listed for rifles, muzzleloaders and shotguns, but there are additional requirements.
